The food, wine, and service were very good - no complaints. Our one big complaint and dissatisfaction has to do with where we were seated. And we are not complainers. As architects and designers who love modernism, one of the main reasons for having wanted to go to The Grill for a birthday dinner is to take in and experience dining in this iconic and historically designated dining room for a celebratory occasion. We were unluckily seated at a table directly adjacent to and facing the kitchen portal, which, understandably, has a constant traffic of wait staff, bus service, carts, etc etc coming and going in and out, some brushing against our table trying to pass each other by. My wife and I were seated directly facing this kitchen portal with the room behind us, so we could not even see to admire the interior space we came to enjoy. Plus the room was exceptionally loud, and having the kitchen right there in front of us did not help. In retrospect, shame on us for not immediately insisting to be seated at another table. My strong advice to anyone who dines here is to absolutely not accept any table near or facing the kitchen portal. We dropped $1000+ plus tip for some worthy delicious food & wine (including a king crab leg special appetizer plus a 72 year old after-dinner Seagrams 7 Crown whiskey!) but the overall experience left a bad taste in our mouths and it was not worth it.

I had a wonderful experience at THE GRILL to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and our anniversary. We ordered the gumbo, house salad, and prime rib. Despite gumbo being a very strong and hearty soup, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to taste the crab through all of that. The salad was refreshing I appreciated the variety of vegetables and other produce. The light flavor contrasted well with the hearty gumbo flavor. The prime rib, however was the star of the show. It was brought to our table via trolley and sliced next to our table. The meat was well seasoned, tender, and fell apart in my mouth. There was a strong crust seasoned well, and we got some meat on the bone as well. We were also provided complimentary bread service, which included a pretzel stick, sourdough-like bread, and a classic dinner roll. All the food was delicious and was further elevated by the service. We were served by maybe 3 staff during our visit, with Anne being our main server. They made sure we felt welcome during our stay without feeling overbearing. Whenever we looked at other tables and wondered what they were being served, she was quick to point out what the menu item was and how it was being prepared. Thank you to THE GRILL for a wonderful experience!

As good as a steakhouse gets. Tartare and crab cake were excellent. Pasta ala press was as good as a dish gets. Steaks were cooked perfectly and sides were great as well. We were too stuffed for desserts. Cocktails were proper. Yes, it’s expensive. But worth it. The night was exactly what we hoped it would be.
