I hate to leave a bad review but I don’t want anyone, especially those new to getting their hair done, going through what I experienced. I paid $550 after being quoted $380 and left with my hair completely ruined. I booked a consultation to discuss hair extensions and lifting my hair to the same colour I had bleached my bangs a couple weeks prior. They said that lifting the rest of my hair to match my bangs would take them 12 months minimum before we could think of hair extensions, if I wanted hair extensions sooner I would have to compromise. So we decided I would stay copper, bring my money piece to my ears, add highlights and order matching extensions at the end of the colour correction. I took a photo of the hair extension samples ring, you can see the two colours that best matched my hair then. The colour correction appointment was a disaster. I was uncomfortable immediately and before they started I said I had two major expectations: I did not want my hair cut into a bob and I wanted to have visibly red hair. I told them how important the length and colour was to me. The appointment was over six hours long, two stylists kept asking me if I was okay with them dying my hair brown despite me saying no every time they asked. Three stylist (one being the owner) spent 15 minutes debating what pattern to highlight the back of my head. Seconds after agreeing to only cut an inch off the ends of my hair, the stylist grabbed a clump of hair from the back of my head and took two or three inches off in the first cut. I told her as soon as it happened that if my hair was too short I would have to wear it straight until it grows out. She said she would straighten it after the wash bowl to make sure it wasn’t choppy, but she blow dried half of it and then said ‘I think I can fix it like this’ before cutting even more off my damp frizzy hair. While my foils developed she put a ‘copper’ dye on my hair that I didn’t realize was actually brown until she started to diffuse my curls after the final rinse. I was trying not to cry while she sloppily diffused my hair, when she stopped with it still damp and called it done my eyes started to well up. She asked how I liked it and not wanting to seem rude for crying infront of her and the busy salon, I told her I liked it and asked to go to the bathroom. I cried in the bathroom and took a photo of my hair. When I left the bathroom they were very uncomfortable and awkward. They rebooked me for a second ‘colour correction’ in December and we never discussed ordering hair extensions. I paid my bill and left with damp frizzy hair. I felt rude for crying and how uncomfortable they seemed, so I messaged the stylist, thanked her and said I loved it. But after that I finished it myself at home & realized how bad it really was. It was choppy, uneven, the highlights were messy, there was a chunk of hair missing in the back and they had ruined my money piece. I called to tell them how I honestly felt and started crying to the owner. I asked for a partial refund, $550 seemed like a lot for hair I specifically asked them not to give me. She asked me to let them fix it and I said I wasn’t comfortable with them touching my hair again. She wouldn’t take my no for an answer because they’re ’the most renown stylists in the valley’ and ‘we’re building a relationship’. I reluctantly agreed but was honest with her and said I had booked a consultation elsewhere to have it fixed, if all went well it would be fixed elsewhere. Another salon fixed it and I let the secretary know I would like to speak with owner again. After almost a full month of waiting and calling them - I finally got a call from the secretary on behalf of the owner saying they wouldn’t do any type of refund because I wouldn’t let them fix it. These places make their own policy but acting like that after charging $550 is gross customer service. Don’t let them touch your hair, there are better salons. I wanted to spend thousands on hair extensions and now I just want my old hair back.
I've been a Head Shoppe client for many years. My current stylist is Michelle and she knows my hair very well. It's always the same trim & thinning for my short but heavy head of hair. If I ever have questions Michelle is extremely knowledgeable. She's also very kind & easy to talk to. I'm very comfortable going to the Head Shoppe New Minas.
I broke my shoulder and wasn’t able to wash my hair. I phoned and was able to get it washed, dried and braided that day. They were so kind to me as it was a very painful injury. When I tried to pay, they said it was on the house. They wouldn’t even accept a tip. It was an incredibly kind thing to do and was overwhelmed with emotion. This is an amazing business
