Customer experiences
Initially, I’d phoned to make an appointment to take a look around. It wasn’t the first nursing home we’d considered but I knew within less than a minute, it had to be a strong contender. Staff were plentiful. Nurses were so informative. Bright, spacious entrance to the building - No musty aroma to this place. Individual rooms each seemed rather nice. Visiting my mum once, my uncle accidentally nudged a pressure mat. We’d not realised, until several staff turned up at once to make sure mum was safe and sound. Staff took their time with mum, when needed. Often it was me, who needed the reassurance. When my mum was safely at Langley, as a family, we felt we could breathe again. No longer had the concerns of… had medication been taken - was she safe, had enough liquid, been fed adequately - washed etc personally, I could just enjoy what I knew to be the end of my mum’s life, with her in just THE best caring place. Thank you.
My Mum spent her last months here and I can't fault the staff. From the cleaners to the managers they were fantastic nothing was too much thank you .
It seemed like a very nice nursing home. My dear Mum was placed there last Autumn for end of life care by St Lukes Hospice. When she was admitted, I was given a load of paperwork to complete. Mostly incorrect ones as another member of staff pointed out, as I didn't have POA for her. I had a missed called at 2am one night and listened to a voicemail to say that her breathing had changed. Nothing more. Not a "we think you should come now" call. My first experience for anything like this, so I didn't know that I was supposed to interpret that. I received no further contact and went over at 8am the next day expecting it to be one of her last days. That I could sit with her and comfort her. No, I turned into the open door and she was no longer on her side and contorted. She was straightened out, on her back, eyes and mouth open, staring at the TV that was off. She was yellow/waxy in appearance. I couldn't even find a nurse. A cleaner found me in a stairwell. I never understood her physical position until my Aunt told me a couple of months later when I was ready to talk about it. She explained that she'd likely been dead for hours and prepped for a GP to issue a death certificate. That was also incorrect. They got the date wrong. From the lack of updates, I can only assume she died alone with not even a member of staff by her side. The most traumatic experience of my life.
My mum was in Langley Lodge for only 7 days. The staff were lovely and very patient, my mum was always very independent and also struggled with change. She said she was happy there and I got to see her every day until she passed no restrictions. I would definitely recommend this care home .
