A terrific space for families with enough room to stay and play. We hosted a small baby shower and had more than enough space for a few extra relatives and friends, and it's very close to the state park for the runners in the family. We also appreciated the backyard space, which we weren't expecting.
We're originally from the area and went back home to see family for the holidays. The place was pretty interesting. Overall things were pretty good. Have stayed in much better and much worse so I would say this was pretty in the middle. We wouldnt stay here again but the place does have a lot of potential. The good: Plenty of space Hot water The odd: 6 of the rooms are connected upstairs (3 on one side and 3 on the other) All of the bedding was on upside down and inside out - made me think that they were just flipped and not cleaned. Trash was not taken out and was overflowing outside. Had to pile up bags next to the can. Limited kitchen supplies parking is annoying having to move (city issue not the rental place - though alley parking or something close would be good). Showers are both really odd - One had 3 shower heads though they dont meet streams and the 3rd would just spray out of the shower if turned on. The 2nd floor shower only worked on one side - the other side was just cold water. The bad: very bad smell very dirty when we got there - It did not seem like a professional cleaning service was used and whoever cleaned didnt know what they were doing. Multiple lights didnt work Water started dripping out of the one light upstairs during the stay Many windows were cracked, open, unlocked, etc (middle of winter). cover plates missing from some plugs smoke detectors missing in some rooms
The house was big and had lots of sleeping options and the communication was great. Honestly, not somewhere I would ever stay again. The cleanliness was poor, lots of hair in the beds and showers, cigarettes and soda/beer cans in courtyard, we also found moldy pizza in the cupboard and most of the dishes were dirty. The property was not a 5 minute walk to the falls, more like a 10 minute drive and the area was sketchy. There were no instructions in the property how to turn on the heat so the first hardly anyone slept because we were so cold (once we found out how to turn in on the house was a great temperature). There is an unmarked tripping hazard that my mom did trip and fall on. There is also a latge gap under the door leading outside, I am shocked we didn’t see mice. Worst of all was the SMELL - it smelled strongly of tobacco, something sour and was very musty. The bedding and everything smelled like it, there was no escaping it. The house has major potential - we just didn’t get to experience it.
Plenty of space for family to visit and socialize, which was the point of our stay. For the cost and number of beds, this place is a great option. Some of the beds were very comfortable, others, just ok. The temperatures in upstairs bedrooms are difficult to maintain consistently because some windows are in need of replacement. Lack of a dishwasher with so many people staying at the house (we had 8 adults and 10 kids) is a drawback. There are two sinks in the kitchen but a dishwasher would be much more convenient. The surrounding area is definitely in redevelopment phase. Keep that in mind if you book. It is not a "picturesque" area. If you stay here, visit Dawn next door at My Place tavern. She is friendly, kind, and welcoming. She also knows sign language. The Pub property itself has so much history and is interesting to explore. If only the walls could talk.
The Pub is a short term apartment rental agency.
