Customer experiences
I have visited the Portland, Maine and Manchester locations and I had a good experience at both. Even though this cafe has been here for years, I finally decided to visit! Good service and I think 🤔 I met the owner, or at least the manager. He had a beard and outgoing personality. He told me that they source their Rio Negro coffee ☕ directly from Costa Rica and have a personal relationship with the farmer in charge of the operations. The Works promotes its relationship with the farms and sources of their food. The inside looks similar to the other two locations I have visited though this location is smaller. Seasonal sidewalk seating with a great view of the Old North ⬆️ Church! I had a basic Egg 🥚 and Vermont Cheddar Cheese 🧀 on Sourdough Toast with a drip coffee ☕ and chocolate croissant 🥐. Everything was good 👍! WiFi available. Very busy in the early morning 🌅! I liked the old photos of Portsmouth that I observed on the wall. I just started thinking 🤔 about Portsmouth from the past and how it has improved over the years. I recommend a visit!
I loved this place and would definitely give the sandwiches 5 stars. Lots of filling in fresh sourdough. The poke bowl was slightly disappointing, not many ingredients apart from quinoa. Plenty of seating inside and reasonable prices.
My husband and I stopped in for a breakfast this morning. I ordered the sliced smoked salmon artisan sandwich and my husband offered the barbeque chicken melt. They made me a cafe mile, which wasn't on their menu but made it well! Thank you - would definitely recommend The Works Cafe for a filling, nourishing breakfast and coffee experience.
I have never had a service worker treat me with such disrespect than I did this morning at Works in portsmouth. I had ordered my food and an iced chai and was waiting for my food… eventually my food came up but with no iced chai and so I waited around 5 more minutes before i went up to where the food was being placed when orders are ready and asked about my iced chai, The girl working this station gave me a dirty look and in the rudest tone possible said “Yeah I haven’t called your name yet so clearly it isn’t ready” I stood there looking confused as I noticed the manager next to her look at me puzzled.. I walked away and AS SOON as I sat down my iced chai was magically ready. Terrible service but great food won’t be back in person ever again and I recommend everyone else use takeout instead of being degraded by the teenage workers here.
The Works Cafe is a cafe.
