UPDATE 1/10/01After I reached out with a full evidence packet, the dealership’s official response (from Shawn Becker) was to hide behind the fact that the van was sold "As-Is." This is a complete deflection. "As-Is" applies to the sale, NOT to a service department giving a customer a verbal-only $20,000 quote for a transmission that wasn't broken (it was just in "limp mode"). "As-Is" does not explain why they refused to provide the wiTECH diagnostic report I requested, nor why they logged a false service entry on October 26th—six days after I had already towed the van away. They are using sales legalese to avoid explaining why a salesperson called me to trade in the van so he could get me into a new ProMaster immediately after their service advisor gave me an astronomical repair estimate. If you value transparency, stay away. Official complaint filed with the Oregon DOJ. I brought my 2015 Ram ProMaster 3500 to Tonkin Hillsboro CJDR for a wiTECH diagnostic, clearly requesting an electrical inspection based on actuator and TCM codes. Instead, I was quoted over $20,000 for a full transmission and clutch replacement—without a proper diagnostic report, written estimate, or breakdown of parts and labor. Despite multiple requests, the service advisor, James Chamlee, never sent the promised invoice or results. Even more concerning: the van was towed out on October 20, yet Tonkin’s online system falsely logged a new service entry for October 26. I still have no explanation for that. I was also left in the dark about the diagnostic results—no emails, no updates, no confirmation of what testing (if any) was performed. The only paperwork I found was a multipoint inspection with no technician name, outdated info from a prior owner, and no reflection of my intake notes. Shortly after receiving the $20K verbal estimate, I got a call from a salesperson trying to sell me a new van instead of addressing the unresolved service issues. This felt opportunistic and inappropriate. I later had the van properly diagnosed at another shop using the correct scan tool—confirming it was a limp mode issue, not a failed transmission. I have documents, emails, invoices, and photos proving every part of this timeline. Many of my emails to both Tonkin and Stellantis went unanswered. This van was meant to be both my home and the base for my small business and James Chamlee was aware of this. Tonkin’s mishandling, lack of documentation, and poor communication cost me months of disruption and thousands of dollars in unnecessary towing diagnostics and Hotels I cannot recommend this service center for anyone expecting honest, professional care—especially for complex issues. —Jacob G.
