Overcharged for parts - Misdiagnosed the problem - Do not trust them for mechanical issues I own a Honda Insight 2009, and on Thursday, December 12th, the brake fluid warning light appeared on my dashboard. After researching online and consulting friends, I was advised to check and refill the brake fluid. I followed their advice, bought the fluid, and topped it up, temporarily resolving the issue. However, by Friday night, the light reappeared, and I lost brake pedal pressure, indicating a leak. On Saturday morning, I visited First-Choice Premium Mechanics & Tyres for repairs. They inspected the vehicle but claimed they couldn’t find any leak. Instead, they diagnosed the issue as a faulty brake master cylinder and recommended replacing the brake pressure pump. Being unfamiliar with car mechanics, I trusted their expertise and inquired about the cost. They explained they couldn’t repair it that day due to the unavailability of parts over the weekend but assured me they’d contact me on Monday. Trusting their friendly demeanor and the way they addressed me as “Bhaijan” in my native language, I left my car with them. On Monday, they called and informed me they had sourced a second-hand brake master cylinder for £202, with labor costing £150. They mentioned that a new part would cost over £600 but assured me that the second-hand part was tested and reliable. Trusting their advice, I agreed and negotiated a discount. They eventually charged me £320 and returned the car Monday evening. After driving for a short time, the brake fluid warning light reappeared. On Tuesday, I returned to the garage, and they claimed to have fixed the issue. But after another drive, the same problem occurred. On Wednesday, I went back again, and this time, they suggested replacing the ABS pump, which they said would cost significantly more. Feeling uneasy with their service, I asked for the old brake pump they claimed to have replaced. They told me they had thrown it in the bin and didn’t have it anymore. This raised serious doubts about whether they had replaced the part at all or if they were simply topping up the brake fluid to temporarily mask the issue. I decided to take my car back and seek a second opinion. I consulted multiple people and garages, most of whom suggested that the issue was likely due to a brake fluid leak rather than the brake master cylinder. They explained that a faulty master cylinder wouldn’t cause brake fluid to empty. Further research revealed that a second-hand brake master cylinder and pump typically cost around £60, not the £202 charged by First-Choice Premium Mechanics & Tyres. Ultimately, it turned out that the actual issue was a leaking brake caliper, not the master cylinder. Due to the Christmas rush, most garages were fully booked, but I managed to find one in Ealing that diagnosed the issue in just five minutes. They identified a leak in the rear driver-side brake caliper and quoted £100 for the part and £100 for labor. Within half an hour, they fixed the problem, completely resolving the issue. It became evident that First-Choice Premium Mechanics & Tyres had been refilling the brake fluid temporarily to mask the issue and returning the car without addressing the root cause. When I returned to request a refund, they ignored me, claiming the owner wasn’t available and promising to process the refund later. Despite multiple calls and messages, I received no response. While this garage might handle basic repairs like tire changes or brake pad replacements, they clearly lack the expertise for mechanical issues. Their friendly behavior seemed like a tactic to gain trust, but their actions showed a clear intent to mislead and overcharge customers. I strongly advise against visiting First-Choice Premium Mechanics & Tyres for mechanical repairs. They misdiagnose issues, inflate costs, fail to address problems effectively, and may even charge for parts they haven’t replaced. Avoid this garage if you want trustworthy and competent service.
