I do not often take time to review appointments, products, etc. But I hope this helps others to not have the same experience. This review is for the North Liberty U of I Sports and Ortho facility. My first experience at this hospital setting/business (since this is clearly their goal rather than actual care of the patient) was having to get an x-ray rather than an ultrasound on my knee-even though I stated this was a soft tissue ‘issue’ (can you say money in their pocket)…anyway-initially the medical assistant was great and honestly the Doctor for the x-ray was also-my review is based on the two male doctors that did the ultrasound and were beyond inconsiderate in their findings and their way of communicating their ‘opinions’-seeming more like a ‘bro chat’ than a medical conversation. I will not be going back to this ‘brand new’ medical facility. I hope this review helps you formulate your own opinion. I am immensely disappointed in the University of Iowa.

Went for multiple visits, they were unable to identify what my issue was, never set up a follow up appointment and then sent me a $2k bill. Waste of money and time.

I saw Dr. Slayman for my diagnosis and Michael Boykin for physical therapy. Both were just wonderful! Super thorough, informative, and you can tell they really care about doing an excellent job and improving their patient’s quality of life. I couldn’t be happier with my experience and fully recommend them!

I drove from out of town to have hip dysplasia evaluated by Dr. Willey. I cannot express how grateful I am for this experience. He and his team were kind, compassionate, thorough, and answered all of my questions the best they could. I never felt rushed at any point. For now, I don’t need to carry through with surgery with Dr.Willey, so I can’t speak to that, but I can say that he went above and beyond to answer questions that he didn’t necessarily need to (he could have just showed me the degree of dysplasia and been done in 5 minutes, yet he patiently addressed any additional concerns I had). He was kind, caring, understanding, and compassionate- these are qualities that seem very hard to find in providers these days. Not to mention, he seemed very knowledgeable and professional in his area of expertise. I feel the others I met on his team also shared these qualities. It’s not easy to be on this journey- in pain, feeling lost and looking for answers. However, the kindness of the staff today at UI Sports Medicine, particularly Dr. Willey’s staff but also the front desk, really made a difference in my experience.

University of Iowa Health Care Sports Medicine is a orthopedic clinic.
