⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely phenomenal experience from start to finish! Leaving your puppy for a five-week board and train program can be scary, but the team at Upstate Canine made the entire process so reassuring and supportive—for both us and our dog. From the first day to the last, their communication, care, and professionalism were top-notch. We specifically want to shoutout Kyle for he was our dog Benny’s main trainer. He really took the time to understand us as owners, but Benny as the dog he is. Our dog really bonded with Kyle from the moment we dropped him off and still to this day when we make our trips to visit he gets beyond excited as do we, to work with an awesome human who cares deeply for what he does. We are so thankful for him! They truly became family to us. The love, patience, and knowledge they shared not only transformed our dog but also taught us so much as owners. Their transparency and continued support even after we brought our dog home have been incredible. We still go back for training sessions, and every time, we’re reminded how passionate and knowledgeable they are. The service wasn’t just great for us—it was outstanding for our dog. We’re so grateful for everything they’ve done and can’t recommend Upstate Canine enough Their staff is beyond incredible as well. Such a great facility. Don’t hesitate to book your training sessions look no further than here
We brought our nine-month-old working line German Shepherd, Bear, to Upstate Canine Academy for board and train—and we couldn’t be happier with the results! Kyle Gelsomini was exceptional, helping us understand Bear’s needs while balancing them with our lifestyle. He has a genuine love and understanding of dogs which was very apparent in his work with Bear, always emphasizing what would be a fair expectation for Bear. As a working line GSD expected to reach 120 lbs in adulthood, it was crucial that Bear be well-adjusted to life in NYC. Thanks to UCA, Bear is now thriving—well-behaved, fun-loving, and a neighborhood favorite! One of the most valuable aspects of UCA’s program is the lifetime support. Dogs inevitably face new challenges and revisit old ones, and knowing we have ongoing guidance is truly priceless. We’re excited to continue our relationship with UCA and wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone seeking expert training and care. Thank you to Tom Davis, Kyle, Marigrace, Kasen, and the entire UCA team—you’ve made a lasting difference in our lives!
The term "dog trainer" is commonly used but can be a bit of a misnomer. What actually occurs during these Tom Davis Experience workshops is "people training" or better yet "team training" whereupon you and your dog become a more cohesive team. Our dog Schatzi is a far northern Canadian rescue GSD/Malinois mix who was feral and running wild for almost two years. We adopted her and began the task of training her to be a good-natured, happy companion animal. We reached the limit of our knowledge rather quickly and employed the use of local professional trainers (shout out to Pack'd Inn K9 Services). They arranged the workshop with Upstate Canine Academy, Tom Davis and his excellent team. The workshop is not about teaching the dogs to sit, down, rollover, etc. It is about focusing on the things owners have identified as problem behaviours and improving vital skills like instant recall that can prevent injuries and worse. Tom sits with participants to learn about the dog and their needs prior to the actual workshop. This is invaluable and avoids wasting time on the days set aside to train. The most impressive thing we found during our workshop was how much one-on-one time we were able to obtain from Tom. His skill in observing and then imparting tips and education in an easily digestible manner allowed us to absorb the information and practice at the same time. While Tom is working with other owners we are able to sit and observe and continue to take in information. This was one of the best run active workshop seminars, of any type, we have been involved in. One of the keys to success is being able to retain and recall lessons learned. Because Tom allows you to record your own sessions you can complete the weekend and refer to your recordings as needed. We felt like valued clients and formed a good relationship with Tom and his team even though the time was short at just a weekend. We very highly recommend anyone needing further canine education to seriously consider attending one of these workshops.
