Customer experiences
Requested 1st floor 2 bedroom apartment because of medical restrictions from the moment my aunt and I met the leasing agent. The leasing agent stated she understood my needs, we saw several apartment agree that it could not be down stairs or upstairs. we found an apartment with a few steps. When i cam back to make sure they had received all my information she (Heather) stated she had to change my apartment but she didn't have time to show it to me because she had to pick up her son. I came the next day with movers in tow and allowed her to take me to the apartment only was it down narrow stairs, it was by a maintenance closet and the back side of the apartment had 20 step s going down a hill. I had emergency surgery and I am still on restrictions for the next 3 or 4 weeks but this is where she thought it was ok to put me. I told her immediately I could live here but I had to go back to work and she said she didn't have anything else, but that was not the case at first. I have been back just about everyday and they have not desire to help me. (Heather the leasing agent was always handling personal business). Heather left and went on vacation after telling me they did have a 1st floor apt available but it was up to the corporate office to approve it. I have sent doctor's office notes and information from the law but these people just want to play games
They never officially released me from my month-to-month lease after I gave a 30 day notice, billed me for a month I no longer lived there without notifying me of the charge, and then turned it over to collections. They also overcharged what the lease stated by $100/mo, never returned any sort of deposit, and will not respond to emails. They also have never released anyone who ever lived on that property from their leases, who are people I don't even know and were on completely separate leases and lived there years before me.
Your mission statement on the website, which says: "Our mission is to enhance the lifestyle of every individual and family who comes through our doors. We ensure that physical facilities are expertly maintained, and we create opportunities for resident engagement. By delivering the highest level of comfort, communication, and service to all residents, we provide communities that individuals are proud to call home." Unfortunately, I do not feel that my experience aligns with these values. Specifically, dealing with a persistent roach problem that has not been resolved despite previous communication and is now at infestation level . This ongoing issue has severely impacted my comfort, and it’s not what I expect from a community that claims to maintain high standards of living and making it difficult to feel proud to any property Managed my Volunteer properties my home. In Tennessee, tenants are entitled to a habitable living space, which includes being free from infestations. The state's Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act (URLTA) governs this, primarily through Tennessee Code Annotated § 66-28-304, which outlines a landlord's duty to keep the premises in a "fit and habitable condition" and I have not had that luxury for a year. I have been currently residing at complex managed by Volunteer Properties in Red Bank since 04/01/24 and have been battling roaches for a year now and it is to the point of infestation in my kitchen and encroaching on my dining room and living room. Nothing like walking into your kitchen and having one fall on your head, opening your fridge door and finding them in the seal of the fridge or having one crawl out of your grandson lunch bag at school. I know roaches do not discriminate nor am I dirty person but I still have roaches in 3 rooms of my apt because the issue was not handled correctly to begin with. I am not talking about a roach here and there, I am talking about about hundred babies crawling all over everything daily. If the videos weren't so big I would include them in this review am am more than happy to show them to who ever would like to see them. I will not be renewing my lease for the 3rd time when it is time to renew. I wouldn't even give a one star but I had to in order to make this review.
Like other individuals have expressed renting with Volunteer Properties has not been the best experience. I resided in a townhome in Hermitage. There were multiple issues throughout the year I resided in that unit. The sink downstairs was constantly stopped up. I was advised it just drained slow. The fridge leaked. My ceiling leaked. Numerous emails, maintenance requests, calls , and complaints later the maintenance supervisor had to come out to find and fix the leak maintenance had come by several times stating there wasn’t one. After being advised the rent increase was negotiable I received renewal papers with the same rate increase I was concerned about. I decided to just move at that point. I vacated the premises 04/18/25. I have yet to receive my security deposit back. Although I received the letter advising that it was due to be returned. Several emails and calls later I still have not received my deposit nor any indication of when it will be returned. We are well past the 30 days.
