We’ve taken our pets here for a while but I refuse to after my experience here with our dying pet. Our family had a wonderful, cuddly, loving 12 year old cat who we brought here without issues for a few years. She ended up getting really sick, and going to pass soon, as we found out from white oaks. They weren’t 100% sure of the issue, but they knew it was terminal. We trusted their professional judgement. We were fine with not subjecting our cat to a barrage of tests as we knew it reduce her quality of life for her last month or two here with us. When we first brought our cat to their office they exclaimed she was “doing good.” They took her into the back, but the moment she came back into the waiting room from the back, where my nieces and I awaited her return, you could tell something was wrong. She was a different cat altogether, all the way up until the day she died. She was in pain before, but I can only imagine her not willing to do anything but curl up helplessly meant she was now in an excruciating amount of pain. They admitted she went into shock in their hands as they were stretching her body, the kinda stretch that resembles a roasting pig over an open fire or the vitruvian man sketch by DaVinci. I know because I asked them to describe it to me (they didn’t use the examples I used) But it’s not just the mishandling of our cat, it’s the palliative care they offered us knowing the pain she was in, most of which they were a catalyst to, that I was oblivious to. They gave us one medication. After some research, I learned Gabapentin takes weeks to be in full effect. She was dead in a week since that visit (and in pain every minute, while I’m thinking the gabapentin is helping!). I accepted this form of palliative care thinking they were going to make SURE she wasn’t in pain. There are a few reasons why their choice in palliative care is upsetting, but I should continue. Mind you, this was our first time dealing with a dying pet, and I disturbed by the experience. Their beside manners were unacceptable at a time like that. My nieces were with me during that visit and i didn’t even get a chance to explain what why our cat looked now looked like that and why all of a sudden the vet is recommending “euthanasia” and what that word even means. They wanted to take our cat away from us in that moment even though when we came in our cat was barely even expressing symptoms. When an animal expresses pain like when she came back into the waiting room, you know it’s bad. I fear I’m rambling now, but I don’t ever recommend bringing an actually sick animal to these people.
We had the unfortunate duty of having to put our dog to rest. I think this was the first time we used white oaks, and they were very professional very loving very caring from the front desk to the veterinarian. It’s never easy to put an animal down, but everyone here made it the best experience it could possibly ever be. I would highly recommend them for any of your needs for your animals.
They were incredible with fixing up our sweet but feral porch cat Cinco! He had an eye infection, needed to be fixed, and needed shots and meds. It was a lot since we figured we'd only be able to catch him once. White Oaks was so helpful and understanding of the unusual circumstances. Cinco healed up quickly, and even lets me pet him now! The care and love that everyone at the clinic showed him clearly had a lasting impression on our boy Cinco.
