Customer experiences
Today on January 25th, I made a snowy trip and arrived at 6:55 and greeted the employee there cheerfully "Well this is Canada !"....I did my shopping slowly to get supplies for my aunt's 95th birthday, my art class, my heritage meeting in Tecumseh and Weekley groceries....I appreciated that I can find sales and variety...I used self checkout because I had discounted items that needed to be verified by the employee and I had two destinations to bring food to....used my Optimum card and signaled to the employee on duty to check my discounted items which she did and I know I said "Thank you "....I slowly packed up.....went through the barrier down to the bench, zipped my coat, put up my hood and gloves and slowly went out pushing the car slowly through the snow to my white Jeep SUV parked beside the cart shed.... I keep saying slowly because...I am 75 years old, have severe arthritis, fibromyalgia and neuropathy in legs and hands...it was dark out, cold, snowy and even the $119.45 worth that I had shopped had tired me out..... I was at my driver side door open to put bags in and I saw the employee from the checkout running towards me....no coat...and my thought was "What did I forget to pack ?"...She came right to my cart and said "You didn't pay for your groceries...do you have a receipt? ".....I probably took 10 seconds to process then replied "Oh no...I going to come right back in".....I had a heavy bag half in to the car and put it back in the cart to turn around and go back in.She had a hand on the front of the cart, I said sorry and she said " If you don't pay we have to call the police...is that your car? I have to hold on to the cart to walk, I could not keep up and said so and started to take it faster and I told her that I needed to hold on...I at no point had made any indication that I was trying to get away..... I had to take my time coming in because I was expected some angina from the exertion and stress of hearing that the police might be called...ME.?...who was the first Neighborhood Watch captain in WALKERVILLE and had a police check twice for all of my volunteer work....she opened the gate for me and I went immediately to the same checkout showing my account, used my Mastercard to pay at 7:36:48....took my receipt and left....slowly, and started crying as I put my hood up and gloves on, out to my car, unloading two heavy bags, cart away and home.... I normally would be able to handle it but the tone and words used to someone my age, my thousands spent on supplies for my many groups, a mistake made in early morning with two staff assuming that I was trying to steal.....HEY..I was the lady who bought th 600.....600....600....packages of rice crackers for 10 cents each so that I could donate them to Street Help and the Willistead donations.....I have a stellar record of teaching, volunteering for 4 organizations here , home ownership and involvement in the community...... I made a mistake... I was embarrassed that I had such a senior moment.... I immediately went to rectify it.. I was physically affected by it because of all my DAMN limitations I am upset, angry and sad..... I DON'T WANT TO SHOP AT YOUR STORE ANYMORE! Kathleen Renaud
We ordered a cake for my son’s sixth Birthday with the Detroit red wings logo. The store called to let us know the printer was down so we went just a basic cake that said Happy Birthday. When we picked up the cake the lady had let us know she had created her own logo with icing. My son was beyond excited and happy to show everyone. I just want to say that she went above and beyond. Not too many people go out of their way to make things special anymore and she made my son so happy. I think employees like her need to be recognized. Thank you again for making such an awesome cake!
We are from the United States visiting Windsor, Canada and we were so impressed by Zehrs. There were many options of everything and the prices were reasonable. Plus a section of clothing. I could have spent an hour wandering around. The only recommendation I would make in the ready-made department. We bought a box of a dozen white bread sandwiches (tuna, chicken and egg.) I understand they used to be in disposable plastic containers. They are now in a cardboard box and even made that day, they were on the dry side. I'd go back to disposable plastic.
I lost my wallet last night. Thanks to the awesome store manager, Tony, who took the effort to reach out to me, and the gentleman customer who found it in the parking lot, I am starting 2026 with my wallet. As well as a love for my community and my local Zehrs! Thank you!!!
Zehrs St Clair Beach is a grocery store.
