Customer experiences
Very disappointing Had my mother sent here for rehab rehabilitation based on what I was told in reference to the great works of Westminster, shortly After a A few days as soon learn that what was presented was not what was being received very short staffed being told by nursing staff that they were unable to assist all residents in a timely manner speaking with The Nurse supervisor Sharon( DON) Who very rudely refused to acknowledge or even barely allow me to explain my concerns, but was also told that I need to leave premises, or I will be escorted away by security due to the nature of me, expressing my concerns of my mother’s care that had not been properly executed My mother was placed into a room where the TV has never worked. Tickets were put in, and she was told that it would be fixed and TV was still not fixed something so simple but to a patient that at the time was bedridden would at least give them some sense of entertainment, but yet not completed Was totally blown off by other administrators as if my situation was not that serious and or important to them while Westminster may be a beautiful presentation unfortunately, the staff is very poor when it comes Two patient care
This review is from someone with direct, on-site experience—not as a resident or employee, but as someone who has supported a resident living in this community. Westminster Canterbury’s independent living areas are beautiful. The apartments, common spaces, dining facilities, and amenities are thoughtfully designed and well-maintained. For individuals who are active and able to care for themselves, this facility can offer a high-quality lifestyle. However, serious concerns arise when a resident’s health declines and they are transitioned into the on-site care facility—commonly referred to as the “At Home Care” unit. At first glance, the unit appears clean. The hallways and general areas seem orderly and maintained. However, almost immediately upon entering the building, you’re hit with the strong smell of ammonia—and that odor becomes even more pronounced once you’re on the floors where residents receive care. This initial impression reflects deeper issues. Residents who require more advanced care are not always receiving the attention and support they deserve. Despite the significant cost many families pay for full-spectrum care, there are consistent gaps in basic caregiving responsibilities. These include delayed responses to call bells, lack of assistance with hygiene, and a general lack of urgency or attentiveness from much of the staff. While there are a few dedicated individuals on the care team who genuinely seem to care, many others appear disengaged, dismissive, or simply overwhelmed. Residents deserve to be treated with dignity and respect at all times—especially when they’re most vulnerable. Requests for simple items, like coffee or condiments, are sometimes met with attitude or reluctance, which is unacceptable considering the price and promise of service in this community. In some cases, residents have shown visible health declines while under the care of this unit, only to begin improving once removed and returned to a more attentive environment. That alone is deeply concerning. Westminster Canterbury markets itself as a full-service, continuing care community—and it largely delivers on the independent living side. But when it comes to advanced or assisted care, especially in the At Home Care facility, the standard falls well below what families should expect for the cost and reputation. If you are considering this facility for a loved one, take the time to ask detailed questions about the care unit, staffing ratios, training, and how resident needs are monitored and met over time. The community owes it to its residents—and their families—to provide consistent, compassionate care at every stage of life. Especially since the resident and/or family is paying for it.
Had a visit to the new promenade section today. It was so amazing I had to share a review. I came to visit my mother, Pat Kawana and she had made us reservations in the new restaurant. I expected high level institutional food. Boy was I wrong. This food was on par with any of the restaurants I have been to in Richmond (or better). The server (AJ) was clean cut, professional, polite and quick to attend to us. The food was amazing. I had the biscuits and gravy with two perfect over medium eggs on the side. My mom had the omelet with her choice of ingredients. My mother in law had the French toast. It came drizzled with chocolate, Nutella and confectionery sugar and a banana. It was sweet perfection. The chef (Matthew) stopped by and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. I can tell you it absolutely was. I am attaching pictures of the food, you can judge for yourself. If you get a chance, go there. You will not be disappointed.
Drama, unprofessional. Avoid the pain to deal with their, nurses, staff & untrustworthy information. They treat memory patients with great disrespect. I'm talking facts, hope the right authorities come without notice. Yes, it's clean and you could get easily distracted from the nasty nurses & some CNA (preceptors). Not worthy of your time as an employee. Feel so sorry for the residents.
