I WOULD NEVER RENT HERE AGAIN. THANK GOODNESS I FOUND "CUBE SMART" just under 2 miles and 8 minutes away on Bellair Blvd, just inside the 610 Loop. Reasonably priced, CLEAN and VERY user friendly. they gave me their direct phone number when I moved in. At Extra Space/Life Strage/Uncle Bobs, I rented the largest unit (10x30) here more than 10 years ago and three owners ago. The woman at the front desk has been there almost the entire time and this review has nothing to do with her. She is a nice person who unfortunately must follow management's decisions. The rent over time increased from a modest amount to $524 a month. During that time under the second owner, there was a break in and my and several other units. Locks were cut and many items taken. Sadly for other unit owners who lost valuable items, the owner reused to make a police report. The unit owners waited hours for HPD and were told no report could be taken from a tenant. As a result, no insurance claim could be filed as a police report is required. Adding insult to injury, management made the tenants "buy" a new lock to secure their units which they could not leave unlocked. Addtionally, management refused to show the tenants the video surveillance. The place had began going down hill. The new onwer has someone on property (maybe an investor or franchisee) who only knows how to be short, curt and rude. During the new present new ownership, the decline has accelerated. When I asked to get the new lower rate, they refused. When I asked to move to a smaller unit on the same floor, I was asured that unit would be reserved for me. It was not. And then there were only 2 other units with bad dimenstions on a different floor. If I had to move using an elevator, it was going to be out of that place. The service and maintenance went down hill as documented by the photos and it appeared that they were only trying to mazimize profits at the expense of maintence. The building only has two elevators. One at each end. The elevator closest to my unit was broken for a long time. they fixed it just before I moved out and it broke again my last day of moving. (See elevator button that is dark after pressing it to light then and waiting. It went dark and the elevator never came.) The sliding glass doors to the elevator were broken for months. One never worked and the other would only open half way. They fixed one just before I left. I came in one day and the office door was broken and had wood placved over it. (See photo) No idea what happened there. The other elevator has the inside panel coming apart. (see photo). The bathroom photo says it all as to cleanliness. The other photos show a van that parks there at night that "appears" to have someone living in it. (see photos) They may have a unit there and park there at night to sleep. No idea why they are there... They definitiely are not security.
Unfortunately, my storage unit was broken into recently. Luckily nothing was stolen to my knowledge, however the way they handled it could’ve been more thorough with the police etc. The front desk employees overall didn’t give me the best customer service experience from the time I moved in up until to the time I left (because they raised the price of my unit after 3 months by double.) They are short with you & not friendly or helpful. I would not recommend this place.
So when I opened my storage the lady told me I had to get there renters insurance from them when I have home owners insurance. Come to find out when I went to another location they said you could use your home owners insurance if you have it. Now they want to play crazy like they don't know what they did. I talked to the lady Mary at corporate well I can't say anything because I wasn't there. Of course you wasn't there at all because it's not your location. I will most definitely be making a complaint with the better business bureau about this company. How many more people have they done this to so that they can make more in profit and act like they are the victim. So I paid these people for almost 10 months of something on a lie by their employees. If you rent from them you better beware of the slick shit
THEY DOUBLE YOUR RENT IN 3 MONTHS. They make customers rate 5 stars on here when signing up for a unit. That's why they have good ratings. They have in the fine print of your contract that your rent "will increase" (doesn't say by how much) in 3-4 months. I was paying $70 a month for a 10x10. Then on my 3rd month my rent went up to $130!!! So this place takes advantage of people. They wait for you to move all your property in and in 90 days they surprise you with much higher rent. Absolutely ridiculous. I will be moving to another storage unit right down the street that doesn't play these games. I even called and spoke to the lady at the front desk and she confirmed that the contract doesn't tell customers how much your rent will go up in 3 months. So you're blindly signing something and they get to decide what astronomical rate you're going to be paying after 90 days. DONT RENT HERE
