Customer experiences
Its often overlooked by those that don't know or understand what it takes to successfully run a shop like this, in an area like this, for as long as they have....that the fact they are still here and going strong for all these years when so many other surf/skate/ski shops come and go like ships in the night...this alone is almost all the review you need. They still get great gear, still believe in realistic prices (and sales/discounts when you hit them are legit) and have a cool, knowledgeable staff. They have a formidable local following akin to each or their locations, and continue to keep this core audiences needs in focus when they buy and stock the appropriate gear for NJ waves and NE slopes. I've purchased gobs of surf and snowboard gear with them, most notably in the last 15-20 years living in or around Monmouth Ocean Co., rarely do I not find the product or guidance I'm seeking. Yes, like most shops their size, they need to maintain a healthy plethora of tourist-aimed beach products, shirts, etc. but this is what likely pays the bills and allows them to continue to serve the hardcore surf/skate/snow community where other shops fall short or simply fail. Trust and understand this as you bob and weave thru those tshirts racks on your way to the board racks and wetsuits. Did I mention to hit those seasonal sales?? Mark your calendars my dudes
I was hesitant to try this place because of the reviews but man I was pleasantly surprised and definitely impressed! I was helped by Paul and he was amazing!! I went in to find boots and bindings for my new board and he helped me find the perfect fit. Will be going back for sure for anything snowboard related!!!
I understand there is a staff shortage but the store is a disaster. There is a leaking ceiling with NO wet floor sign. They have a bucket to catch the leak but again they have no sign and its very easy to run into or trip over the bucket. You get wet while shopping. The store is not size inclusive. There is no excuse to not carry Multiple L and XL items when the Point Pleasant shop has some. There jeans and shorts don't go past a size 11 which is awful. The one worker I did see who did register this time and last time was amazing and such a sweet girl but I don't know if I want to go back with no dressing rooms open and it being so hard to return something there. Its very disheartening finding something you love but you are unsure if you can buy it because it won't fit and you can't even try it on.
Worst experience at a store in a long time. Bought $120 outfit for Christmas for my daughter in November. She goes to school out of state and I was not able to give her the gift until New Years…she did not like it. Tried to return without a receipt (I knew I would only get the current price on the return). I was told the items were 30 percent off but then when I walked around the store I saw they were still being sold at full price. No sale sign, no markdown on tag. I left vowing to find the receipt rather than basically have them just take my money. When I finally found the receipt I was told it was “expired” by the management. They offered to let me exchange my $120 worth of merchandise for $59 worth of merchandise, citing company policy. Further, about three years back I bought a winter coat there. While in the store, a group of thieves came in, loaded up their arms with coats, and ran out the door. My husband and I were wildly yelling to the manager and told him to call the police. He replied it was not worth it because they wouldn’t get caught anyway. So basically we let thieves get away with it and let honest paying customers get screwed. I will NEVER shop there again. Their policies are bullshit and their flippant attitudes are maddening.
Brave New World Surf & Snow is a surf shop.
