Update 2/20/25: Cowen Tax Advisory Group also prepares our federal and state tax returns every year. All 3 individuals who have prepared our taxes (Don, Andrea, and Kayla) were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Included in their tax service is helping if you have a problem. We had identity theft in 2021. Long story short, we have had trouble since then getting our federal tax refund for 2021, 2022, and 2023. I tried to resolve ourselves, then with a local tax advocate, and Don with no luck. Roger suggested that I see Steve Pelletier (their tax expert) for assistance. I started working with Steve in July 2024. We have been corresponding at least once a month since the original meeting. Steve has made several phone calls to the IRS. This involves being put on hold for literally hours, sometimes having the call dropped and having to start over, etc. Since then, we have received our federal refunds for 2022 and 2023. We're still waiting for 2021, but each time Steve calls, there is a new status to report. It isn't solved yet, but I know it will be with Steve's tenacity, experience and an abundant amount of patience. Dealing with the IRS is not for the faint of heart. Thank you to Steve Pelletier for going above and beyond by getting through the very heavy red tape of dealing with the IRS to get our tax refunds to us! My husband and I first came to Cowen Tax Advisory Group the Fall of 2018 for re-assurance that we were on the right track with our financial planning for retirement. We met with Roger Cowen who is one of the most genuinely down to earth, nicest people we have ever met. He always greets you with a big smile and makes you feel he's happy to see you. Roger and his staff have impressive, successful business experience and outstanding reputation, so we know we are in capable, knowledgeable hands. In addition to reviewing our financial portfolio, Roger also "buttoned-up" some other holes we needed addressed. When he found out that our will hadn't been updated since 1989, he offered to bring in an attorney (to his office) where we could meet to update our will, health care instructions (living will, health care Power of Attorney, designation of Conservator) and General Powers of Attorney. We took Roger up on this offer because he made it so easy and affordable for us! Now, our will, living will, P.O.A. is updated which is such a comforting feeling. Another hole Roger saw in our retirement plan was what we would do should one of us need long term health care. He suggested a flexible life insurance policy which we could use for a death benefit, or long term care or a combination of both. There is no way we could save or invest on our own for the same benefit payable for this very affordable policy. My husband and I now can sleep at night knowing that if something should happen to either on of us, the other one will have the financial protection to help (instead of draining 401k). The most recent thing Roger did for us was set up a meeting with Dylan Cowen to plug in all of our assets, expenses, pensions (amounts and date starting) and social security (amounts and date starting) into a software program (which added inflation and worse case scenario for investments). This software program charts out the year you will have to start digging into your 401k and whether or not your money will run out. Luckily for us, this exercise provided assurance that we are in great shape for our retirement. I cannot tell you how much we appreciated this exercise. Now we have peace of mind. Last but not least, every person in the office is friendly, welcoming and professional. Roger, Judith and Dylan have welcomed us into the Cowen family and we could not be happier or more thankful.
