We were very fortunate to have the assistance of Kyla of Aunt Benny Design in completing our house renovation in 2021. We were able to consistently rely on Kyla's expertise and support for the entirety of the renovation from conceptualization to completion, a period of about 11 months. From the outset, Kyla provided structure to the project and helped us to pull together the various aspects of the renovation into a coherent design plan. Kyla listened attentively to our ideas, parameters and limitations and made every effort to incorporate them into her work. At the same time Kyla contributed some great ideas and creativity and brought a sense of vision to the project. On a number of occasions Kyla helped us to think 'outside the box' with some very pleasing results! In short Kyla introduced the 'Wow' factor which would not have been there to the same extent without her input. That being said, Kyla was very respectful of the need to compromise if her suggestions were not within our budget or conceptual framework. On a practical side, Kyla was always very respectful of our time. She communicated promptly and was fastidious in attending meetings on time. Kyla was a great support to us in getting through some sticky patches in the execution of the work, even when the issues were not directly related to her design work. Her optimism was helpful in dealing with unexpected challenges which arose during the course of the renovation. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the results of the renovation. We feel that the success was significantly related to the design work provided by Kyla of Aunt Benny. We hired Kyla at AB+ZU to design the renovation of our urban split-level condo and to help transform it into a modern but warm retreat. From the discovery call with Kyla and Jeremy through to the design process, Kyla’s design sensibilities and her approachable style made it easy for us to land on a plan that met our needs. Kyla was great at suggesting enough options — without overwhelming us with endless choices — and worked within the boundaries of a budget, even when that took some creative ‘hacks’ to make the best use of solutions that ended up working beautifully.
