Unbelievably Great Experiences I am very squeamish/lab coat adverse BUT my visits there have been extraordinary to the point of being extremely positive and confidence building. I will start by saying I have a large contingent of family members in the medical profession (at all levels). Some of them absolutely do not talk to me because they don't feel that I am entitled to my opinions. My encounters at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital (GMH) have been the antithesis to this paradigm. I have found all staff that I have dealt with in multiple visits to be especially nice, professional and EMPOWERING. I had a huge/exotic tumor come out of nowhere with a vengeance on my back. I met with one of their top surgeons, Dr. Christopher Martin offsite at another facility where he also practices. He insisted on doing the surgery at GMH. I am extremely happy with his decision. And ... he listened to everything that I had to say with an unbelievable reservoir of knowledge, understanding and compassion. He was also a surgery instructor. He allowed me to add input to the upcoming procedure whereby TWO changes were made (i do research for a living/have many patents ... ) and I got ZERO pushback !!! On the contrary, our interactions created a great bond with mutual respect. So from being super OCD needle/scalpel shy, I was granted status as a stakeholder which gave me more confidence than I have ever had in such a medical situation. Full disclosure, Everything went perfectly, all staff involved were focused on my comfort and providing the greatest care they could deliver. I had also broken my hand just days before my surgery adding some IV location complication but everything got worked out fine. I never thought I would say this, BUT the whole experience was a NET Positive life event that really built my confidence in the great side of people. Exactly as scheduled a week later I got the pathology report. I was informed by Dr. Martin himself that although my tumor was quite rare, it was also benign. I didn't lose any sleep worried about it in the interim. This from a person whose blood pressure typically soars up to the 200+/100 range when visiting a Dr. office. I cannot say enough good. The settings, facility and staff at GMH are extraordinary.

Edit 11/9/23 - I found out two weeks ago what was wrong with me when I visited this hospital. I also found out that had this hospital done one correct imaging test, I could have been in a lot less pain and now not need extensive spinal surgery. This hospital needs help. This hospital is also about to face a HUGE lawsuit……. Thanks for NOTHING! Exceptionally nice staff and clean small town hospital. I did have one Doctor this morning who was a little bit curt with me when she asked “can you read” which was slightly offensive considering the amount of education I do have, but be that as it may, it was still a very pleasant visit. I guess my one question given my age and education is what ever happened to leaving the hospital with a diagnosis? I’m no closer to knowing what’s truly wrong with me than when I went in? It seems again in the post COVID world no matter what hospital you go to, it’s one imaging test, blood work, and a script to “band-aid” you over until you follow up with your PCP and then you end up with referrals to specialists that can take upwards of 4-6 weeks to come to fruition? There was a time when you left the hospital knowing what was wrong with you. I guess that luxury is over no matter how big or small the hospital is? A 225 mile round trip to Iowa city multiple times really just sounds more unnecessarily expensive, dangerous to myself and others on the road considering I have one working arm, and an exercise in futility when you’re in the kinda pain I’m still in??

This review is er only. First time being at this hospital. I rushed an hour an 30 min here because my husband was having medical issues with a medicine. He came by ambulance. I Got here an been waiting to go back an see my husband for 45 min. Staff just messing around laughing. While my husband texted me asking me where i was an he wanted me back there. I told him to tell the nurse an he said no one has been around since the blood draw. Then 15min after that Lady came out an said she can't allow me back there until a provider is ready. Um excuse me I just watched two people go back together but I'm being told I can't see my husband??? My husband has been asking them to bring me back an they are refusing. This er is a joke. Nvr have I ever been denied to see my husband at any other hospital!!!!

It is so nice to have a front desk person who enjoys their job. Very helpful and understanding. The family clinic was very clean. The nurse who helped he was very polite and professional. The larger cities should learn from this clinic. 5 stars all the way!
