I randomly found Hope Custom Building through a simple Google search—and I’m so glad I did! I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to work with when adding on to our home. I really liked his bidding process—he gave us an estimate, but told us it would cost what it actually costs. This meant, we could move walls, outlets, and light switches as needed without dealing with change orders every time. With each step, he considered the functionality and aesthetics of the addition, and would discuss with us the best options. Also, he keeps his subcontractors honest. We were told that there are many subcontractors who won’t work with him, because he requires such perfection from each one. He makes them come back and fix every little thing. This has left him with only the highest-caliber subcontractors. Lastly, he was excellent at communicating. We always knew when subs would be coming and what they would be working on each day. With our addition, we were hoping to have it completed before our new baby boy was born. Nate was able to finish ahead of schedule and under budget! We highly recommend Nate Custom Building for anybody looking to finish a basement, adding on to their house, or even building a custom home from scratch. He was everything we could’ve hoped for in a contractor and more.

The first thing I’ll say: you should absolutely work with Nate. From the beginning, he was upfront in saying, “I won’t be the cheapest, and I won’t be the most expensive—but the quality will speak for itself.” And I can confidently say it did. Ironically, I’d argue Nate was the most cost-effective option. His bid was fair, accurate, and honest. Compared to others I received, his estimate ended up being the most reliable—and the others would have easily run over budget. What truly sets Nate apart is the peace of mind you get working with him. If something unexpected comes up, he owns it and stays on top of it. We were referred to Nate by our next-door neighbor, who ultimately chose a different contractor. Their basement started 9 months before ours and somehow finished around the same time—over budget and with plenty of regret. They’ve since told us they wish they’d gone with Nate. His bid process was by far the most transparent. He provided a detailed line-item estimate and was clear about potential unknowns that might impact the price (we had some foundational work, and he was upfront about what he couldn’t see beneath the surface). Throughout the project, he was communicative, on schedule, and diligent. Late in the project, one subcontractor made a small but impactful error. Nate stayed involved, followed up relentlessly, and made sure it was resolved 100%. Lesser contractors would’ve passed the blame or disappeared—Nate did the opposite. Bottom line: Nate is the kind of person you want managing your project. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Nate came out to our home to give us a bid on finishing our 800ft basement, after spending over an hour at our house he let us know he wouldn’t provide us with a bid until we disclosed our budget but it would not be over 92k. Because we had no idea on what finishing an 800ft basement would cost (and he was the first bid we had requested) we could not provide him with a budget and did not receive a bid from him but we did receive bids from other contractors that helped us formulate our budget and put into context the absurdity of a 92k number.
