Don’t ever try to call them to ask for help! I have called 10 times over the past week to get a refill since they are ignoring my pharmacy. People at the beginning directing you are so nice and get you to where you need so fast. Afterwards, it’s the worst possible experience. The office doesn’t answer phone calls and doesn’t listen to voicemails. Yesterday, finally got nurse to send the message to the physician but no response. Today, decided to fix my MyChart that they disabled years ago. First person was doubting me, lied to me, and didn’t help. Second person finally helped, now I just have to hope and pray for a refill. It really shouldn’t be this hard.

I’m only giving one star because Dr. Sylvester Barnes has been treating my grandmother, who’s battling stage 4 kidney cancer — and he deserves 5 stars. This review is not about Dr. Barnes himself. He’s been great. The problem is with Dr. Barnes’ nurse, a male nurse named Joe (who conveniently didn’t provide a last name). Today, my mother called the office because my grandma urgently needed to be seen due to her condition. Instead of receiving help, my mom was treated with rudeness and disrespect by Joe, who acted extremely arrogant, sarcastic, and unprofessional the entire time. He was cocky on the phone and even raised his voice at my mom while she was calmly trying to explain that my grandmother is in no condition to sit in an ER for hours. His response? “Just take her to the ER.” And then he made it worse by lying in the medical notes, falsely claiming my mom was being aggressive on the phone — a complete fabrication. All she did was advocate for her dying mother and ask why she wasn’t being taken seriously. Rather than show any empathy, Joe escalated the situation and deflected blame, saying things like: “The doctor sees 5,000 patients. Take her to the ER.” …as if that justifies refusing care. Bottom line: Patients — especially terminal ones — deserve better. This isn’t how you treat families in crisis. Joe should not be in a position of care. He’s the reason people lose faith in healthcare professionals.

I have been a patient of Loyola for many years. I have an extensive health history and am very familiar with healthcare best practices. On August 4, I had a surgery where multiple things went wrong and were missed, causing me unnecessary suffering. I reached out to the patient advocacy department and was gaslit and patronized, as they clearly were defending themselves instead of performing their responsibility to support quality patient care. If they believe that discharging a patient with internal bleeding is providing the best standard of care as they maintain, I would encourage other patients to go elsewhere. No one deserves to go through an experience as I did, and I hope that by sharing this I can help other patients to seek care at a hospital where they value the safety and health of the patient and have a desire to improve when obvious mistakes were made.

If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be here today ❤️ It's not the nicest looking hospital. The ER is awful and always packed. I've sat there for 9 1/2 before swelling up like a balloon all day and well into the night. However, I have loved my Dr's from there and they've all been amazing. I've put mine through a lot of crap & they still saved my love more than once.
