Gross Negligence: Fire Hazards, No Heat, and Council Intervention at * Russell Road. ​I am writing this review as a final resort following four months of systemic failure, breach of contract, and total disregard for human habitation standards by Romans Basingstoke. ​Since moving into * Russell Road in October 2025, my family—including my young daughter—has been forced to live in a property that is not only falling apart but is objectively dangerous. Despite dozens of emails and site visits from Amber Axton and Leonte Hurn, the following remains unresolved: ​Life-Threatening Electrical Hazards: An electrician confirmed "earth leakage" (a major fire and shock risk) in the heating system in January. As of late February, this has NOT been rectified. My daughter is sleeping in tracksuits and sleeping bags because Romans has failed to provide functional, legal heating. ​Sanitation & Pests: We discovered rat/mouse traps under kitchen units and have been living with a "foul, rotting odour" in the bathroom that Amber and Leonte witnessed firsthand in December. Their response? Total inertia. ​Structural Rot & Mould: There is extensive water damage, rotting cabinetry, and black mould developing in the living room. When "repairs" were finally attempted, they laid new flooring over damaged plumbing against the contractor's own advice. ​Management Failure: We have been stuck in a "cycle of quotes." Multiple contractors attend only to "inspect," but no work is authorised. I was even told by Leonte, "It's not like you don't have heating," while I was literally using a heater I had to buy out of my own pocket to keep my child warm. ​The situation is so dire that the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Environmental Health Department has been forced to intervene. The Housing Standards Inspector has had to threaten Romans and the landlord with a Legal Improvement Notice just to get a basic remedial plan. ​Romans continues to collect full rent for a property that fails the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018. They have attempted to "gaslight" us regarding the severity of these issues. ​To the Senior Management at Romans: Do not reply with a generic "we are sorry to hear this" template. I require a definitive, time-stamped completion date for all safety works and a formal proposal for rent restitution for the months we have lived in these sub-standard, dangerous conditions. ​Prospective tenants: Stay away unless you want to involve the Council just to get your heater fixed.
