My husband and I took our one year old daughter to the emergency room recently after she spiked a 105.4 fever and was having trouble staying awake. The ER nurse was great and thorough, we have no complaints with her. But the ER doctor was not. She did a quick 2-minute “exam” of our daughter, ran zero tests, decided that she was dehydrated and wanted to give her an IV for hydration. I simply asked if there was any way we could do that in Sioux Falls since her normal pediatrician was there and the doctor immediately got defensive and talked to me like I was dumb for wanting to leave and go all the way to Sioux Falls. After some back and forth I told her I didn’t care if we had to leave AMA, we were going to Sioux Falls. She then stormed out and we waited another 3 minutes for the nurse to pop in and ask us what was going on because she didn’t even know. I told the nurse we were leaving AMA and the nurse asked us if the doctor even looked at our daughter or ran any tests. (Red flag.) When we said she looked at her briefly but ran zero tests, she offered to have them do so, but I refused. We went to Sioux Falls and what our daughter has is viral, but the doctor in the ER there, after doing a thorough exam, xrays, and running tests, determined that she was NOT dehydrated nor did she need and IV for fluids. She indicated she was actually well hydrated. It was my first time at this facility after moving to the area and I can 100% say that I will not take myself or my daughter there again.
I Have to say, I am from a large city where you don't even know your neighbors. When I moved here in 2011 it wasn't long before I hurt myself mowing (being from a city that has no grass) this was all new to me. I needed medical attention and I went to the Osceola hospital and was welcomed with smiling faces and welcomed to the town ! I started doctoring immediately and doctor there to this day. I eventually had my grandmother move to Sibley and she loved the care she got there as well. It really means something to me when you can have a conversation with almost everyone in the hospital / clinic and they remember you. I like the genuinely caring service I have received and would recommend to anyone !
