When planning a getaway to the Northern Bruce Peninsula, we thought we would stay at the Peninsula Motel again. We have visited a few times in the past and remembered it as a clean, comfortable family run business with a continental breakfast.||We booked using Expedia and the problems started from the instant I clicked ‘book’. We had agreed to the room charge of $179 per night as advertised, and expected taxes, but I received an email listing the charge as more than $1200 for 3 nights. There was a ‘property fee’ of $460 added to the bill. I immediately (within 5 minutes) reached out to Expedia to see if we could cancel the reservation. They told me that this was non-refundable, but that we could try to contact the property to see if they would waive fees for cancellation. We tried for days and could not make any kind of meaningful contact with the motel. Expedia tried on our behalf for 5 days and could not get in contact with them either.||We decided since we were going to have to pay anyway to make the best of it, and arrived according to our reservation. Check in was NOT a smooth process, as we raised the issue of the ‘property fee’ with them at the time of check in. Jack, who was working the desk, had no idea what the charge was for. He explained that he was just an employee and not the manager, and he would have to call his boss. Of course when he tried, it went straight to voice mail. After several phone calls and texts to the person my husband had contacted previously, they agreed to give us the ‘walk in’ rate of $199 per night. Jack then gave us a handwritten receipt and took a photo of my credit card.||The room was reasonably clean. We had functional wifi. We spoke to a couple in the room next door and they were not so lucky; they could not get a wifi signal (we were room 3, they were room 4). The exterior of the property has not been kept up to any semblance of what it used to be, with a ‘volleyball court’ overgrown with weeds. Though the sign outside still advertises a ‘continental breakfast’, there is no longer any breakfast. There was a keurig machine in the room, but no coffee pods or even cups. The beds were so hard we decided to leave one night early and drive home to sleep in comfort.||While writing this review, I checked my credit card statement and see that we were overcharged. We will attempt to contact, but we are not hopeful we will get satisfaction.||In summary, what was once a comfortable family run hotel is now a very unprofessional shady business. It caused us a lot of stress around our short vacation and we will not stay there again. DO NOT BOOK HERE!
When we arrived at 6:30 the room was not ready, the caretaker knew nothing of our arrival. Even after waiting a little more than an hour the room was still dirty, the microwave and the television was not working. The microwave the caretaker brougt us in replacement was full of mildew. The bathroom sink was dirty and no cup available. We were told to be sure that our dog would not leave any shedding or it would cost us the 225$ deposit he took on our credit card upon arrival. The vast backyard was the only positive with acces to the wood but the grass was freshly cut and was not disposed of so we left the room was full of grass! We finaly only stayed 2 nights insted of 3.
Booked a room, explained to the lady that we would be arriving late (between 11 and midnight) provided all necessary information. Was assured of a room with 2 queen beds and booked. Showed up in the middle of the night (like we said we would), and was promptly told they had no rooms available and had no idea about our booking. Owner was no help whatsoever, and we were left hung out to dry with nowhere to stay in the middle of the night. Terrible communication from the owner, and a very average looking place for the $200 a night that we were booked in for. (And did not receive) Book elsewhere.
