Customer experiences
I was a little disappointed with the wait in the ER main waiting room. There didn’t appear to be many people, but I was waiting for three hours. I didn’t see many people being called back and I was very sick I thought I can’t go another three hours so I left that hospital and went to another hospital but in the past when I have gone to Penn State Hospital, I cannot complain on any treatment from any doctor or nurse. They’ve always taken good care of me. I’m not sure what the problem was this past time. Perhaps they were just short on staff. Nothing bad to say about this hospital except I had a very long wait and I never did get to a room but I’m sure if I would have gotten back to a room. They would’ve taken good care of me as usual so the reason I gave 3 stars is because I waited for three hours without seeing many people being called back and I decided it’s best to go to a different hospital. All is good I got the care I needed…
Unfortunately being chronically ill, I'm all too familiar with an ER. I have a mixed review so I'll start with all of the positives. The waiting room was empty at 6:45am on a Saturday morning. The security guard was kind and helpful getting me a wheelchair. The triage nurse worked quickly to get the needed info to get me into a room. Nurse Cody was attentive, kind answered questions and brought me a warm blanket. I was quickly taken for a scan after my heart rate stabilized. The results came quickly and the doctor discussed everything with me. The bad... upon entering the ER, a wheelchair was provided because I could barely stand (severe abdominal pain, low heart rate/blood pressure). I was dripping sweat because the pain was so intense. A woman attempted to check me in and the computer system froze. She could not figure out how to get me admitted for treatment. Another employee came over near me, singing and dancing. The security guard looked at her and said "get back here and help her get her checked in". The woman claimed she couldn't help but did go back and begin working on a computer. I got into a large chair to lay down trying to find a position that lessened the pain. When a wave of intense pain occurred, I softly said "oh god" and the singing/dancing woman had the nerve to respond with a curt "be patient". Had I not been in severe pain, I would have addressed her etiquette immediately. It is unacceptable that the computers crash and front door staff are rude to patients at an ER.
As a chronically ill patient, I'm no stranger to an ER visit unfortunately. This was the most comfortable and efficient visit of my life. My nurses were lovely and went the extra mile to make me comfortable. Shout out to Laura for all the heat packs and blankets to keep my Raynaud's under control, it was almost cozy! I got labs, a CT, an ultrasound, diagnosis, treatment and discharge within 4 hours.
I came in with palpitations and shortness of breath. An EKG was taken in triage, after waiting too long for what the condition I presented with, I later found the doctor didn’t even review the ekg prior to seeing me. After the doc left I sat in the room for over an hour and not attached to the vitals machine, no call bell placed within reach, not even a blanket. They did make sure the lady came in to charge me my copay. Plus the room was super crusty and dusty. Photos attached. Penn State, why are you even offering ER services and not taking care of your patients? You should be ashamed.
