I had a late volleyball game at the UofC on Tuesday night. I left my stuff in my own locker (I brought my own lock) and planned on retrieving it after my game ended. I showed up to my locker at 11:15 to find it emptied by staff. I understood that they were not overnight lockers, and did not intend to leave my belongings overnight; I was returning to grab them, but as I stated my volleyball game went on for a long time -- completely out of my control. My car keys and wallet were in my locker, which had been emptied by active living services and then put behind their desk, which they then shut down for the night. So I was essentially trapped after hours at the Uni with my sister, who also needed a ride back to her car. I live in Airdrie, so getting home could have costed me a ton of money in Uber fees, I was forced to leave my car overnight in the lot which could have costed me a parking ticket, I had my wallet in there so I didn't have ID to prove my identity, I have to buy a brand new lock now, and I had to show back up to client services early in the AM because I was afraid of my stuff getting stolen, which interrupted my ride's schedule and made him late to work. I understand that they have to empty the lockers; but they should check that no one is in the Jack Simp. gym before doing so! When I told the client services girl what had happened to me, she didn't apologize at all for the trouble. She told me that the building closes at 11, and I should have been back by then; I told her I was back at my locker at 11:15 and she just stared at me. No empathy for the hours and hours of time this wasted. They could have waited 24 hours before emptying the locker to make sure that someone was actually intending to leave their stuff overnight. The one good thing is that Campus security was there to help me.
I work out at the gym all the time. However, some days they would have rules in place that didn’t exist before and that are not applied to everyone. Staff members at the fitness centre are inconsistent, unprofessional, and too douchy for their own good.
We were down at Bowness Park last Friday and rented a couple boats and the group working there from the UofC were amazing and so helpful! Just an awesome group running the Boat Launch, we had a great time and you were a big part...thank you! Sharmaine Bell and the group from EMBE Consulting Engineers Inc.
They have awesome facilities. It gets crowded in the morning and afternoons but there's enough space to do your own thing at the second floor too if so you desire. Parking is paid but you can also opt to park outside the university for free, although that is a bit of a walk to do in winter. My advice is to get the parking pass which is cheap and covers the whole year.
