Customer experiences
This shop really amazed me with their quickness in getting it done, their price, and the friendly service, everything was really great, the process was very simple and the price was a steal. I am super happy I came here to Jason's shop. They have the best customer service and the will treat you like your family. I definitely will do business with this shop in the future. Thank you Salem Exhaust & Automotive!!
I took my 69 Camaro in to have new exhaust installed, The brand new ceramic coated headers were already installed and I dropped off the mufflers and correct band clamps that are made for the Hooker headers I installed, they have a sleeve inside of them that slides to make sure it seals up correctly. The system is based on both the collector and pipe being the same diameter. I'm not sure why they thouhgt it was a good idea to try to put 2 different size pipes together and thought it would seal. It leaked from the first day and when i asked about getting it fixed under warranty I was told that it cant be done because the style of clamp wont work. He wanted to charge me another $800 and thats if i took my headers off and brought them in so he could weld on them and ruin the ceramic coating. To say I'm a little upset is an understatment. If he couldnt make it leak free from the start and knew it he shouldve told me and told me theres no warranty on the work they do. you can see by the pics below at how poorly it was done, who knows where my $100 clamps went and they chose to use these $13 dollar clamps that are just garbage. it would take a very intricate clamp system with a raised area inside to match the clamp on the center section to have any hope of sealing it up. So after i spent almost 20 grand on the fuel injected 383 its impossible to get it running good becasuse it cant self tune with huge exhaust leaks and sound terrible also. Now I'm left coming up with more money to go someplace else. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR CUSTOM EXHAUST I WOULDNT TAKE IT TO SALEM EXHAUST SHOP, THEY MIGHT BE GOOD AT DOING DIRECT FIT REPLACEMENT STUFF BUT NOTHING CUSTOM. yOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE BLACK SOOT ALL THE WAY AROUND IT AND THE CENTER BLOCK BEING FLAT WHILE THE CLAMP HAS A STEP IN IT, NOT TO MENTION THE POOR QUALITY OF THE WHOLE CLAMP. He brags about having 25 years experience in exhaust systems but I dont see it. oh and it was funny when he told me it leaks because theres no gasket in that seal only metal to metal, He says you gotts have a gasket and proceeded to pull out a V-Band clamp system saying he wants to weld it on and ruin the coating on my new 900 dollar headers, I chuckled and said yeah those are good but they dont have any gasket either. He acted like I was stupid and just didnt know how exhaust systems worked. It's always nice to be patronized by a business owner that does poor work then wants to charge more to fix it while being condescending to me at the same time. The chrome tips are done wrong also but thats not to big of a deal. If you look close you can see the difference in the way the clamps are built while the Holleys include a seperate peice of sheet metal to keep it round so it can seal as long as both pipes are the same diameter. Those are the only clamps that should be used and its why they cost a hundred buck. Instead of fixing whats there he wanted to weld flanges on both sides when the system is designed to run the way it is if you dont try to use different sixed pipes. I couldve just left it the way it was if i wanted to sound bad and be undrivable.
Wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my exhaust but I wanted a deeper sound and not excessively loud. Jason was able to schedule me in for appointment and got my car on a lift and gave me many options. Love how it turned out!
Fantastic experience. I recently purchased a new to me 2022 Ford F250 and the previous owner had put in a large aftermarket exhaust. The exhaust was way too loud and droned like crazy at highway speeds. I do lots of highway driving and the drone was killing me. I went in early one morning after having had enough drone and lots of driving ahead of me. Jason was able to quickly find a new muffler, get it ordered, and installed same day. I came back in the afternoon and an hour later, they welded together a new muffler and piping. The truck has no more drone and is so much quieter and a pleasure to drive now. All together a truly 10/10 experience and the pricing was incredibly reasonable and fair. I will 100% return when I am ready for a more custom true cat-back exhaust system!
