I recently stayed at the Freehand Hotel in Los Angeles and was extremely disappointed with my experience. The main reason I booked this property was to enjoy the rooftop view. However, the rooftop was closed during my stay “because of rain,” even though we simply wanted to go up to take in the view and some fresh air. There is no clear policy stating that the rooftop closes for weather, and this should be communicated in advance, as it was a major factor in my booking decision. The rooms were also very small, with no lockers and no proper security. The surrounding neighborhood felt unsafe, with a strong smell of marijuana everywhere and many people experiencing homelessness right outside the hotel. This made the area feel uncomfortable to walk through, especially at night. Speaking of night, it was almost impossible to sleep due to noise and the overall lack of comfort. For the price, the quality of the service and facilities was shockingly low. I felt misled and honestly scammed. Many travelers I met there shared similar experiences, and the positive reviews online do not match the reality. Overall, I am very disappointed with my stay and cannot recommend this hostel. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and improves transparency and guest safety.

We did enjoy our stay here. The roof bar was really nice with nice views. Chris helped me find that perfect wisky scotch blend. The food was good however I do like my food very spicy, they tried with tapatio and jalapeños but it wasn't enough but the waiters really tried and I thank them for it. We wish the windows where thicker because it can get noisy and cold so try to get a much higher floor. (We where on the 6th) wasn't far enough from the noise. But other then the hotel was clean and nice, we would go back.

I had a wonderful stay at the Freehand Hotel! The atmosphere was stylish and welcoming, and everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and easy. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. I especially want to shout out the valet service — Angel was amazing! He was so friendly, professional, and incredibly efficient. Every time we needed our car, he had it ready within minutes and always greeted us with a smile. His positive attitude really stood out and made our experience even better. Highly recommend staying here — great location, great service, and great people!

So this was my very first Hostel experience. My mom booked and our family (9 of us) stayed in a dorm room. I will admit upon arrival the first thought was “what has she gotten us into and where the hell are we?”” Once inside the architecture is beautifully. The freehand is an art deco, very chic and elegant classic hotel. The staff was amazingly nice and friendly. The are many places to walk around and shop, eat, or just explore. Because of my Freehand experience, my entire group (ages 93 - 14 years old) enjoyed and now want to experiment more hostels. The rooftop pool area turns into a night club for 21 Andover. The drinks are amazing. The restaurant has great food, and affordable prices. There’s a novelty shop that has some items you’ll never see anywhere else. I will definitely be coming back!! Side note** The Freehand is the hotel that inspired the architecture and decor for the Cecil Hotel from American Horror Story season 5 with lady Gaga.if you are like me you will immediately notice. Have a great stay we sure did!!!
