Customer experiences
Located in a beautiful neighborhood and easy walk from our AirBNB! Staff are very kind and the gym was not busy during the time we visited. Clean facility and a yoga class was underway during our workout. Would recommend it if you're in the area!
Pros: - Bright with lots of windows. - Always clean. - Showers are decent. - Staff is friendly. - There's enough equipment to get a serious workout even if you lift heavy weights. - The steam room is a nice bonus. Cons: - Very small. Even though it's a small town, it can get crowded especially when groups of people hang around and chat. - Very expensive. You're subsidizing free programs and get a membership to six locations whether you want it or not. - Terrible hours. They close at 8 pm on Friday and 6 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You'd think they make enough money to staff properly. Always closed on holidays. Same hours at all six locations. Every now and then I seriously consider canceling and joining a gym in Stratford. - When a machine breaks down, it's removed permanently rather than fixed or replaced.
Expensive!!! because you get access to all locations… should be a discount to have just access to this one because the equipment is rough, old, and limited. It’s nice I can drive a minimum of 25 minutes which also cost gas , time, and vehicle wear, to another ymca. I’d rather go to the closer gym to work out.
The price is really high for how small the actual place is. It is pretty good if you go right at opening hours and basically have the whole gym to yourself, however if you go at any other time of the day it'll usually be packed and you'll barely be able to even work out. This gym only has 1 squat rack, only 1 bench that you can adjust, 2 actual bikes (not including the 2 useless reclined bikes that people don't want to use), only 3 regular sized barbells, basically no space to lift weights on the rubber padded area infront of the mirror (if there are 4 people here it feels packed), as well as many other space issues that arise when there are even just a few people in the gym (depending what they are doing). 35$+ per month is really a huge rip off for what you get, especially when compared to other gyms that have a bigger actual gym, a running track, basketball court, and a pool for the same/similar price.
St Marys YMCA is a fitness center.
