I have stayed at this hotel multiple times. This hotel is a unique update on what makes you feel like you jumped into a Time Machine into early colonial era Virginia. I love it each time and definitely plan on visiting for each work trip. Ivenia at the front desk was very helpful in processing me during check out and her knowledge, warmth, and kindness will be another reason why I return. Rooms feel updated but still maintain the same charm that’s on the outside. The courtyard and overall cleanliness for this hotel is excellent as well.

This is the second time I stayed at the Founders Inn and Spa and I’m sad to say that it is my last. For a 4-star establishment my experience and the room were sub-par. I arrived at 11pm and was completely dissatisfied with the establishment. First of all, the first room I was given had dirty pillowcases and I immediately notified the front desk. They changed my room which was no better. There was hair on the floor of the bathroom and the toilet bowl had stains in it. I had to use the bathroom in the lobby area before walking all the way to my building to go to bed…it was extremely frustrating. I told the front desk about this and they notified me that housekeeping had left for the day but they’ll have someone over at 8am the next day to clean the bathroom for me. This was extremely important because I had to get ready and leave my hotel at 9am for an appointment. The front desk person (Shannon?) offered me free breakfast the next day for my troubles but I already had breakfast plans in the morning so it didn’t make sense for me to accept the offer. The next morning comes and I don’t hear from the front desk. I call at 8:30 and no one picks up so I had no choice but to walk over there and speak to them. Again, I had to use the bathroom in the lobby area that morning because I couldn’t use the one in my room. I explained the situation to the young lady at the front desk and it didn’t seem like she knew about my predicament. That was strange because Shannon assured me that the morning shift workers would get her notes. Looks like they didn’t. Eventually someone came to my room and cleaned the bathroom…by 9am. It was a major inconvenience since I had an appointment scheduled for 9am. The staff offered me nothing for my troubles. On top of all of this there was a dirty q-tip and crumbs in front of my room when I checked in and they were still there when I checked out 3 days later. For a 4-star hotel this was extremely disappointing.

Friendly and attentive staff. Ivenia at the front desk was fast to answer questions about the area, and where to go for what I needed. She even remembered me and asked if my shopping trip was a successful one!( it was )|Housekeeping had an empty shampoo bottle replaced within 5 minutes. Room service food was delivered promptly and was very good. | This is a beautiful hotel with an awesome staff. Highly recommended!

Our stay wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t amazing either. I expected better service and room quality. It’s not to say that service was rude or anything but it was frustrating to get room service. This hotel is very pretty. Since it’s likely it was converted from the Regent University within the same area, it has some “colonial” architecture and nice interiors. The property is very nice with dog parks and good walking paths. Indoor and outdoor pools looked really nice. Landscaping was really nice too. Breakfast is included and it’s free. Not really a large variety but it’s passable. Cafe staff was really nice. The room we stayed in was pretty disappointing. We definitely had a more premium room. There was a mild smell of gas from the fireplace when we never touched it (the hotel engineer smelt it as well), the TV had really poor cable reception, and the shower almost floods the bathroom anytime you bathe. We also had requested room service four times before someone finally cleaned our room and it was the only time they cleaned our room. I’m a little confused by the staff hierarchy here. Front desk told us that they were trying to reach the management of house cleaning to get someone over here? … What? We were also told that they couldn’t clean the room because they heard our dogs, which is understandable, but we told them a couple of times that they would be caged while we weren’t there. Not sure what’s going with cleaning service but that was a pretty annoying situation. Simply put, we paid too much for our stay. I just think there’s not good communication between staff. Rooms should also be inspected from time to time.

The Founders Inn and Spa, Tapestry Collection by Hilton is a hotel.
