Very nice pub. Very nice and attentive waiters. Very original in its decoration and with 3 different and very well decorated rooms. Variety of beers and good quality. We will be back...

I really enjoyed visiting this pub a few times recently but was very disappointed this Sunday when I was turned away. Apparently on market days there is a no dogs allowed policy. Surely you are dog friendly or not? When I was last there a local was sat with his dachshund on his lap at the bar and yet on my latest visit I was not allowed in any areas with my dog.

We visited the restaurant within the pub (the roast works), and while I can’t state enough how much we appreciated the lovely waitress and her service, we were quite disappointed with the food. We had booked a table for six people for a Sunday lunch, we were told after ordering that unfortunately the chef had run out of hot roast potatoes so he could only give us two each (the size of these two potatoes must have been 30 grams worth), but in exchange he’d give us extra vegetables. Well, the vegetables consisted of three baby carrots and two small slices of parsnip, along with some leeks that were quite soggy. Not what you’d expect for a roast dinner costing £20. In fairness the beef was lovely, but for £20 you would expect more. We also received the apple tart for dessert. This consisted of a small circular pastry, around 5cm in diameter, with a hint of apple taste, along with a scoop of ice cream. The base of the pastry was hard and we couldn’t cut into it with a spoon without the plate flying across the table. We’d also like to mention we were extremely offended by the racist and misogynistic decor, including a tapestry of a crying woman wearing a chastity belt, and two 6 foot statues of cartoonish stereotypical black children holding up a candelabra. I’d like to say I really believe in the restaurants idea of eating seasonally with locally sourced ingredients, but we felt overall massively shortchanged. Will not be returning.

Very friendly little pub with excellent well kept real ale, only a couple of hand pumps but you don't need lots of options when the beer is good. There is wood panelling which looks like it's from a church, and stylish bar stools. Service helpful and friendly, bar maid appeared to know all the locals!
