Customer experiences
Let me start with the good. The Wooly is quaint and clean. It is a good neighbourhood spot to just have a pint of beer if that’s your thing, as there seems to be lots of alcoholic drafts and nonalcoholic choices. The biggest disappointment was the main meal as it was horrible for what they charge, as I ordered the walleye and chips. I wasn’t expecting the fish to be prepared English style with heavy amounts of mostly batter. What kinda credible chief does this with quality choose fish cut's? To add insult to the way it was prepared the fish was way over cooked and rock hard. You couldn’t cut the fish fillets with a knife, as it was that hard. I have to eat with my hands. The french fries were thin cut and greasy, but not horrible. The chicken wings and caesar salad were both tasteless, but edible. The stand out of the evening was the dessert as it was quite fantastic, as it was totally homemade and worth the $9
Nice covered patio surrounded by a native flower garden. (There was also a beer garden tent available). Food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was polite and efficient.
Here’s a Google-style review you could post for The Wooly Pub in Guelph, with a special shoutout to Ed: --- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Wooly Pub – Guelph, ON Visited recently and had an absolutely fantastic experience at The Wooly. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a great selection of local craft beers and a menu that hits all the right notes—especially the pickerel and sweet potato fries! But what really made the night memorable was our server, Ed. He was attentive without being overbearing, had great recommendations, and brought a genuinely warm energy to the table. You can tell he cares about the guests and the vibe of the place. Ed made our evening feel like we were regulars, even though it was our first time. Highly recommend stopping by—ask for Ed if you can.
I came for the fish which is pickerel and it’s absolutely delicious . When I mentioned to the server that I was eating all these calories in honour of my Dad whose birthday it would have been he said : Well I glad it meets your expectations. Dad often brought pickerel home from his fishing trips . Upon receiving the bill I was surprised that they paid for my beverage. It is such a lovely gesture and made my day . The Cole slaw is really good, too . Service was excellent ! Thank you Wooly !
