My experience has been nothing but positive! The faculty I’ve had for classes and staff are engaging and make an effort to help you grow as a social worker beyond the classroom. The community at UMB and the SSW is very active and flourishing - every time I’m on campus, there’s something new to do, an event, etc.

The University of Maryland School of Social Work admissions office is so poorly handled, it's a wonder that anyone can be admitted at all, let alone let the school be highly ranked. The office of admissions frequently: -incorrectly directs candidates to other UM department resources -goes days without answering email -does not answer phone calls -deflects candidates with short ambiguous answers or misleading information The school also handles financial aid like I have never seen before. They require students to commit an enrollment acceptance deposit (on top of application expenses) before being allowed to see if financial aid is rewarded only a couple of months prior to start dates, thereby eliminating any student's ability to plan financially or make an informed choice on attendance.

This is a powerful graduate school in which to learn social work. I graduated in 1966.Its teachings were the foundation of a clinical practice still in use to overcome interpersonal problems in 2015! I have been licensed for independent practice since 1977.
