We got our Hermann’s tortoise, Newton, from them, and the experience was everything you’d hope for as a responsible pet owner. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely cares about the animals—they’ll make sure you have everything set up correctly before you take your new reptile home. It’s clear they prioritize animal welfare over sales, which is so refreshing compared to big box stores that sell to just anyone. Their selection of supplies is just as impressive. From lighting and bedding to food and enclosure decor, everything is high-quality and very reasonably priced. You don’t have to compromise between doing it right and staying within budget. The owner is also one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet—patient, helpful, and passionate about animals. You can tell this isn’t just a business; it’s a community hub for people who truly care about their pets. I can’t recommend them enough!

One of the last mom-and-pop pet stores left. Such a breath of fresh air to be able to go in and talk to someone who actually knows the difference between a turtle and a tortoise. We have bought several animals from Jim and his staff. From cats to snakes and leopard geckos. They are all very nice and know what they are talking about. If they don't know, they know which staff member does and direct you to them. They have two locations and i encourage you to go check out both of them. One on W. 11th between Seneca and Tyinn in Eugene and the other on Main and 44th in Springfield . Different variety of pets to be had at each. Also carry a very good variety of all the supplies you could want for you pet of choice. Please do yourself a favor and skip the Smart and the Co. Go see Jim and his staff down at Hometown. They will not only help you pick out a pet but they will support you when you have questions about that pet. I can't say enough good things about them. Go see for yourself. No I did not get paid for this and I'm not family. Just a very satisfied multiple Hometown pet owner.
