Autokare Cambridge

I had a great experience here. I went to Autokare for a second opinion after being given a long list of "serious" issues from another less reputable garage, and they were honest, thorough and reassuring. They properly checked the car and explained everything clearly - and only advised what actually needed doing. They have saved me a lot of stress (and money) and I left confident my car was safe. They were friendly and trustworthy - I'll definitely be using them going forward. Highly recommend them for a fair price, quick turnaround and friendly staff!

Hi, I had just picked up my car and was disappointed with the invoice. My works asked for: 1. MOT 2. Look into a ratlle under the bonnet 3. Check the rear wiper as this wasn't working anymore 4. Check the rear left door as this wouldn't open anymore MOT was 54.84 (okay, no VAT due) and the rest was 85 + 20% VAT, being 102 pounds. What was the story for points 2./3. and 4. ? Well, as for: 2. the bonnet stay was apparently not clipped into place correctly (likely happened after myself changing the oil recently). How much time would this have taken ? Okay, I had asked for taking a spin. So maybe they took the spin before opening the bonnet. 3. Rear wiper: they simply checked 'the lives and earths'. They were present. They advised an estimated £300 for changing the wiper motor (sounds a lot but hey, all good). But how much time did that check take? Cannot exceed 10 min. in my estimate (I'm not a mechanic but I won't be far off) 4. The rear left door wouldn't open because of the child lock that was on! I thought I checked this, so I beat myself for how I could have missed this. But how much time could this have taken them? 10 seconds? I understand there's also the initial phonecall and the phonecall(s ) back. I couldn't pick the first phonecall (to say that my car was ready but called them back immediately) as I am working as a postie. Even if they charge for these phonecalls (fair enough) than still my invoice for these checks is exhaustive in my opinion. So this is a complaint only about the invoice. I must say they treated me really friendly and their communication is really good. Also I feel the team is really achknowledgable (they do wielding as well) and know ALL about what could possible fail an MOT. So far, I am impressed with their service and skills. But this invoice was just a cold shower. I will probably go back but I am expecting a reply if possible. And maybe I'm wrong here on the time metrics but I advise customers to mince words on the initial phonecall: they kept asking about the rattle ... I said it is under the bonnet so take a spin. Don't say that! They have probably done a spin on the yard before checking the bonnet stay. Okay, but how much time takes such a spin? I am feeling I am overcharged by 20-30 pounds if I do the fair calculation. Thank you for looking after the car. Best regards, Gert
