Enjoyed a nice meal here with a lot of different options. While I know very little about the cuisine my dining partner does know a lot and was very pleased. They had a lot of good information regarding different allergens. We had the kofta, daal and some chaat. The daal was served with sizzling ghee but was the least flavorful. The kofta was spicy, apparently their spiciest dish. The chaats were good, beautiful presentation. Also the carrot pudding dessert is delightful.
We recently visited Banaras Indian Restaurant and had a mixed but overall good experience. We started with the Gol Gappe, which were fresh and flavorful—definitely a good start. The Soya Chaap, however, was a bit of a letdown as it arrived slightly cold and didn’t quite meet expectations. On the other hand, the Paneer Kaju was delicious and a great choice for kids with its rich and mild flavors. The Litti Chokha was authentic and flavorful, though a bit on the spicier side. The Kadhi Rice turned out to be one of our favorites—comforting and packed with flavor. We tried the Thandai, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. However, the star of the meal was hands down the Banarasi Lassi—thick, creamy, and perfectly balanced. If there’s one thing you must try, it’s that! Overall, Banaras is a great spot for vegetarians looking for something authentic. That said, the pricing is definitely on the higher side, so it’s more of a once-a-year kind of indulgence than a regular hangout
Banaras — A Vegetarian Masterclass that’ll surprise even the most Desi of tastebuds Let’s get one thing out of the way: the low average rating? Probably because some folks expected it to taste exactly like a roadside dhaba in Varanasi. That’s like going to a Michelin-star sushi restaurant in the U.S. and complaining it doesn’t taste like the one you had in a hidden alley spot in Tokyo. It’s not just unfair, it misses the entire point. I came here ready to skip meat for the evening (yep, it’s 100% vegetarian) and left not just satisfied, but low-key obsessed. Banaras doesn’t try to copy familiar Indian flavors. It reimagines them. This is that rare place where even Indians will take a bite, pause, and ask, “Wait, how is this so good and so distinct?” "Babaji Ka Litti Chokha" was the clear highlight for me. "Gorakhpuri Kofta" was another standout — bold and flavorful. I also really enjoyed "Mahabir Ki Aloo Tikki", "Dum Kaju Paneer", and their soft Pooris. "Pandit Ji Ke Dahi Wadey" and "Dahi Kishmish Gulguley" were plated like edible art and packed with flavor. "Tamatar Ki Chaat" and "Malaiyo" weren’t personal favorites, but I understand the appeal. The "Jalebi Rabri" was my top dessert — crisp, fresh, and made after you order. "Banarasi Lassi" was my favorite drink — thick, creamy, and well-balanced. Ambiance is modern and elegant. Service is average. You’re here for the food and experience, and that delivers. Heads-up: weekend wait times can be long. We waited 45+ minutes once — tough when you’re hungry, but the food is absolutely worth it.
Do you love north Indian chaat!! Aloo chaat here is the best and worth every penny. We also tried dahi k gulgulle, lithi chokha, kofte, panner starter, kachori and aloo sabzi. Most of the items were out of the world except paneer which was an OK dish. We also tried Lassi, jalebi rabri and thandai which were all amazing. Please visit the restaurant to enjoy some of the best dishes from India.
