I have nothing but high praise for the professionals at Calvert Health (CH). My experience was with the ER over two days and then the Hospital over two additional days ... for a total stay of 4 days. This was my first time as a patient in a ER/Hospital. The ER staff (Drs, nurses, lab techs, Cat scan and MRI staff, and transport staff etc.) were able to get me stable and rule out all the scary stuff with precision and compassion … from my perspective they were truly awesome. The hospital staff - doctors, nurses, techs, transport, and hospitality - were soooooo good!!! Their efforts enabled my recovery and they developed a comprehensive plan to support my successful transition to home health care. I have nothing but high praise for all the CH staff involved with my care. It is a blessing to have such a wonderful hospital in our community that is staffed by truly extraordinary and dedicated professionals.

My 82 year old Mother was advised by her wound care Dr to report to Calvert for Emergency Services for a wound that need immediate care beyond the wound care center abilities. She laid in the Emergency Department for hours and not a single Dr physically looked at her wound. They commented that they seen the pictures on a phone! She left that hospital and went to St. Mary's. Within just a few hours, the Dr on call evaluated the wound, admitted her and performed necessary bloodwork and CT Scans. Immediate option was debridement surgery and a skin graft for faster healing. However, based on her oxygen and blood pressure levels, the surgeon opted for a different healing approach - antibiotic packing to heal from the inside out. The wound was 3 cm deep and almost to the bone. After 10 days in another hospital (St Mary's which has been amazing) she was transferred to a rehabilitation facility. Calvert needs to do better for everyone, especially the elderly.

My daughter was treated in Calvert ER on 9-20-25. I want to shout out nurse Heather, and Dr. Parmele. They were both awesome and the epitome of service recovery. This was her second trip to this ER in 2 days with severe abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting for 1 week. She was also seen on 9-18-25. If I had to rate them for the first visit, they would receive 1 star. I was not present for that visit but my daughter said they were not taking care of any patients. She recalled a lot of laughing and conversation at the nurses station and several patients loudly fussing because they needed care. Apparently the C-team was on duty. Fast forward to our 9-20 visit. The staff was thorough and professional. As soon as she entered the room both the doctor and nurse were there to complete an assessment. After that, care was rendered pretty quickly. All tests were completed within 45 minutes of her being in the room. Her nausea/vomiting and abdominal pain were treated and relieved. 1 day later, she is still fine, thank goodness.

They did an awesome job with my son. They kept him stable and in the best condition ever, for the facility that was picking him up! I tell people to choose this hospital over the other hospital in St. Marys. They were so attentive and I appreciate them for that!!

CalvertHealth Medical Center is a general hospital.
