Customer experiences
We stayed here for two back to back nights -- our first night was a "garden view" meaning not facing the water however we were pleasantly surprised as it in fact opens onto quite a nice patio area. The room was clean and spacious as well. We asked for a harbour view for second night and had a great view of the water on the second floor with a balcony where we sipped wine and watched the sunset. Again the room was clean and spacious. Reception check in both times was warm and friendly and very accommodating to our requests. |We ate in the bar our second night -- food was OK typical pub food but we had really come for the Kitchen Party which was very entertaining and a lot of fun. This happened often throughout the tourist season so worth the $15 cash fee.|Recommend asking for a second floor harbour view when reserving although the first floor rooms also overlook the harbour (and the parking lot)|Well worth a stay
We stayed at the Ocean view hotel for 4 nights during our NL trip. Got the ocean view room on the main floor. The room was clean though a bit dated, but the beds were very comfortable and we slept well after our days spent hiking. We did not like the lack of privacy in the room with the drapes open. You had people literally walking/ leaving bikes/parking their cars right outside your window. We kept the drapes closed during the entire stay (so much for the ocean view). The bistro upstairs has stunning views of the ocean though! We had a few meals there and enjoyed the food and the sunsets.
Comfortable room, we had the rear parking lot room, which was very quiet. Dining room has great views of water and sunsets. We saw the Anchors Aweigh show in their pub. It was very entertaining and fun. Close to other eating establishments, gifts shops, art gallery.
We were stopping here as part of a month’s travel across eastern Canada, and had purposely booked a Sundowner 2 Queen room to get the amazing sunsets (their wording on their website).||When we arrived at 2.40pm we entered and approached the reception desk to check in. The woman looked at me approaching and then walked away. Not the best start. I waited and called to her and asked if we could check in, and she said I’ll have to see. Cue her calling housekeeping to see if the room was ready…it wasn’t and we were told to return after 3.15pm. I queried when the check in was, and was told 3pm…so i said I’d return then but was told to come back in 45mins.||To have been travelling in the car for over 5 hours and be greeted and dealt with by someone defensive and as friendly as a cactus wasn’t the welcome we were expecting.||We returned at 3.15pm and went through the whole process again (can we check in, let me check, call house keeping etc) and this time the room was ready. I should mention that at no point had there been any apology for the lateness/unreadiness of the room, or anything remotely empathetic.||When we arrived to the room we began to realise it wasn’t the room we had booked (a year in advance). When I called to reception and explained this I was told that the hotel was full, no other rooms were available and it wasn’t her job to allocate these bookings.||It was probably at this point I was starting to lose patience, and asked her to get her manager to call me as this needed resolving. Bear in mind most of the other guest rooms were not checked in either at this point, so there would have been options available to resolve and there was no need for the defensive laissez faire attitude.||We then get a call back and are told that we can move to our originally booked room category, so we return to reception to collect the keys.||We’re greeted with the same hostile receptionist and the manager Michelle who tries to explain what has happened. Someone has reallocated our booking to another room type and they don’t know why. Fair enough, things happen…but the way we have been treated from arrival to this point is appalling and I explain all of this to her so that as a manager she is aware of everything. I’m entirely sure she was bothered to be fair. She muted something about giving us a free drink in the bar, and I explained to her this was something that should have been offered to us when we originally tried to check in and our room was not ready and wouldn’t be ready until after their official checkout. Sort of a missed opportunity to make customers happier.||We are now in the new building block at the back of the original building…bear in mind that we booked this hotel and room specifically for the ‘amazing’ sunsets.||We are in room 308, and the room itself is fine (I’m not sure a tiled bathroom should be a selling point of a room but hey ho).||My issue is that this room has probably the worst view of the water/harbour/sunset than the main building. When the sun goes down it is hidden by the main building itself. Then add onto this all the electricity cables, pylons and coaches and I think it’s fair to say it’s a pretty awful view.||I’ve tried to be extremely fair in this review, but I’m afraid this really isn’t worth staying here if for us you are coming for the views/sunset. Or at the very least book a full ocean view room in the main building where you will get a better unobstructed view.||We didn’t eat here as the reviews for food are pretty bad.
