Highly recommend – honest, helpful, and reliable I dropped my car off at Dipsticks (South Woodford, Herman Hill) on Friday 23rd January and honestly couldn’t be happier with the service. I phoned first thing at opening time (8am) and spoke to Thomas. Initially, he explained they were fully booked and extremely busy that day. I then explained that it was a bit of an emergency — my car needed a service, but more urgently my key was stuck in the ignition, which had forced me to disconnect the battery. As soon as he understood the situation, he kindly made space for me and booked the car in the same day, which I really appreciated. I was able to drop the car off, have the issue resolved, and collect it just a few hours later — a huge help as I was working a late shift that day. Thomas immediately identified the problem as a faulty solenoid that needed replacing, and it wasn’t an overly expensive job. From my own research, I suspected it might also be a low battery issue. Instead of using that as an opportunity to upsell, Thomas ran a battery check and confirmed the battery was absolutely fine. That honesty really stood out — they could easily have recommended unnecessary work, but didn’t. This is actually the second time I’ve had this kind of honest experience with Dipsticks. The first was back in 2023 when I’d just bought my Smart car and noticed a rumbling exhaust. I was fully prepared to pay around £150 for a full diagnostic, but the owner explained that after driving it, the car simply needed to be “broken in” as it had been sitting unused. He was absolutely right — no unnecessary work, no wasted money. In this day and age, it’s genuinely hard to find a garage you can trust not to overcharge or push work you don’t need. Dipsticks are refreshingly honest and professional. A big thank you to the whole team, and especially to Thomas — I could see he was under serious pressure that day, which made his help even more appreciated. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Before having MOT done, I had the tyres checked by the tyre garage down the road. Dipsticks failed MOT over one tyre and advisories on the front two. I went back to the tyre garage who tested again and can clearly see it’s at reading of 3, front tyres coming out as a 5 (given new are a 7!). All tyres within legal limits. When asking how much to replace tyre to pass, Dipsticks quoting extortionate prices in comparison and saying having to order in as well. Main annoyance is the amount of time I have wasted. I was hoping it would be my go to garage but will definitely not be going there again!
