Hyatt Regency Toronto

This is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. We had a gorgeous room with a view of the water. The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable and a crib was quickly provided for the baby. The drinking water faucet next to the sink was a really nice touch - I’ve never seen that in a hotel before. We enjoyed the large and quiet pool (we came on a Sunday to Tuesday). We enjoyed exploring the family and games room too. The issue we had is that the elevator was broken on our floor for most of the stay. We had to use the service elevator, which was pretty gritty and it also took an extremely long time to come. When we rose the issue with the front desk, they were completely unaware of it. Then later, the service elevator broke too. We were literally trapped on our floor (we have a double stroller so we couldn’t walk down 20 flights of stairs). We had to call a staff member up for assistance and the whole ordeal took so long that we arrived late to our Ripley’s aquarium visit. We rose the issue to the front desk again but they simply said it was out of their control. Sadly, this put a real damper on what was an otherwise beautiful hotel.

This has been our go-to hotel every New Year’s Eve, and the staff have consistently been helpful and welcoming. Special thanks to Oliver for assisting us with check-in and to Selena Park for arranging our fondue dining experience. We booked a Junior Suite in the North Tower with a lakeside view, which provided an excellent vantage point for the fireworks display. The location is very convenient, situated right beside the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. While there is no direct access to the PATH from the hotel, it’s easy to cross the street to WaterPark Place and connect to the PATH system, allowing you to walk all the way to Union Station, Scotiabank Arena, the Eaton Centre, et al. The room itself feels a bit dated. The suite is essentially two separate rooms, with the bedroom requiring a keycard for access unless the door is propped open, and a separate living area with a convertible sofa bed. Compared to other Marriott properties in downtown Toronto, the suite could certainly benefit from some updates. The wifi was also quite slow. I attended a Microsoft AI conference at this hotel a few years ago and experienced similar connectivity issues, so it was disappointing to see that the internet performance has not improved. Breakfast was acceptable, though I personally prefer the breakfast offerings at other nearby Marriott properties. The fondue dining experience, however, was outstanding. The cheese fondue was rich and well balanced, accompanied by a generous variety of dippers. The chocolate fondue was smooth and not overly sweet (though it did need to be replaced after some time), and the selection of fresh fruits and treats was plentiful, allowing the chocolate to truly shine. Selena’s team was extremely attentive and did an excellent job overall. I would highly recommend the fondue dining experience. Overall, 4.5 out of 5

My first time in Toronto will not be my last and that is due large in part to my experience at this hotel. The rooms were very clean and newly remodeled, the location was perfect, and the hotel amenities were also great. But what really set the tone as soon as I arrived on the property was my experience at the front desk with Shelley! She was such a pleasure and was so sweet and helpful! Hospitality goes a long way, and they definitely earned my business for a future visit!
