All I can say is, go to this incredible culinary gem as soon and often as you can! It’s a shame I don’t live locally or I’d be there all the time. La Shukran is a world class dining experience tucked off an unpaved alley behind an unassuming entrance. The small dining room makes for a warm and cozy vibe, with the wood fired kitchen in full view. The flavors of each dish were tantalizing, yet accessible and comforting. The wine list features low intervention small producers from around the world and the cocktail program is well curated to enhance the cuisine. I highly recommend La Shukran and look forward to returning as soon as possible. Pro tip: Reserve well in advance or arrive early for first come, first serve bar seating.
It took me and my homeboy a while to find the place, however it was worth the hunt. This place was recommended three times by other managers from two different restaurants in Union Market so we had to try it out. The restaurant itself is located in a loft type setting with an intimate gorgeous ambiance. The bartenders and managers were very friendly and engaging. We had a half dozen oysters off the Late Night Menu and a couple of well crafted tasty cocktails. The regular menu and escargot looks great so I must come back and give it a whirl. Cheers!!!!! 😉
La' Shukran offers a fusion-style take on Middle Eastern food — creative, but not really my preference. I was hoping for more traditional flavors, especially with staples like hummus. We also had a reservation but still had to wait for our table, which was frustrating. The food is well-made, and if you’re into modern twists on classics, it might be worth checking out — just be prepared for a possible wait.
This hidden gem near Union Market in the alley is a must-visit! From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with the most amazing scent - it smells like beautiful candles and sets such a relaxing, welcoming vibe. The restaurant is impeccably clean, both inside and outside, and it feels like every detail has been carefully thought out. We didn’t have a reservation, so we had to wait almost two hours for a table inside so here’s a tip: definitely make a reservation! While waiting, we hung out at the restaurant’s rooftop area, which was super cute and cozy. Even though it’s outdoors, the fire lanterns kept us warm. The rooftop menu is limited, so we ordered a few appetizers and drinks while we waited, and they were delicious. When our table was ready, we walked back inside and were blown away by how delicious the food and drinks were - every bite was perfect. I honestly don’t remember the last time I had such amazing food in DC. Next time, though, I would definitely not wait two hours for a bar seat. Make sure to book a reservation in advance to fully enjoy the experience without the long wait. This place is a total hidden treasure, and I’ll absolutely be back. No complaints, just a perfect dining experience all around!
