Pretty disappointing experience , the owner is great and welcoming but the food is not great. The meze , what doesn’t need much cooking I assume, were good but the rest was a bit of a disaster. The octopus was hidden under a mountain of onion and was so salty you couldn’t eat it, the chicken in souvlaki was rubbery and drowned in mustard sauce and the mixed gyros was a mess of unidentifiable leather like meat. No wonder the restaurant was empty.

We visited El Greco Portsmouth last weekend and had the chance to preview their Christmas menu, available from 25 November to 26 December. The three course offering with a glass of prosecco for £39 is exceptional value and the food was genuinely outstanding. The traditional spetsofai and kleftiko were perfect for a chilly, rainy day and every dish exceeded expectations. We also had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, Kristo, who was incredibly kind and welcoming, and wonderfully patient with our children. Our daughter loved her pasta with cheese and our baby slept through the whole meal, which made the experience even more enjoyable. This was a true 10 out of 10 dining experience and we are already looking forward to returning with friends and family. Highly recommended.

El Greco is my favourite restaurant of all time! I'm a food blogger based in Portsmouth (@sj_goodeats_) & have been to many, many local restaurants but nobody does it quite like El Greco. The restaurant itself is stunning inside & out, the decor is gorgeous & sets the scene for a delicious Greek meal. The staff are friendly & accommodating and will offer you a warm welcome into their beautiful restaurant. I've always been a massive fan of Greek food & come here often with my family. I lived in Greece as a child & this is where my love of everything Greek has come from 🩵 My favourite item on the menu is the mixed gyros plate, I love that there's the option to get different types of meat and the chips are chunky and delicious. Another of my favourites here is the lamb Kleftiko, the meat just falls apart and the flavours are incredible. When it comes to drinks they offer wine, beer, spirits and cocktails so there's something for everyone. I've booked to come back for Valentines Day as I think this venue is the perfect place for a romantic evening meal.
