Customer experiences
Lovely clean restaurant with friendly staff and excellent service. But.... Over priced , over rated and for the size of some dishes, over priced. Positives: Can't complain about the service, everyone very attentive. Happy to take coats to the cloak room(quaint) and food cooked very promptly in the open plan kitchen after you order. Not so good: The food was a mixed bag with most tasting quite salty. We opted for Thai Fish Cakes, which were salty and Pil Pil Prawns which were quite nice. For mains, the Cuttlefish bolognaise which was quite dry and lacked any sauce. Yes it was slow cooked but very little tomato flavour and again a quite salty. Plus the Crab linguine, which for £28 is a rip off and was very salty. Overall very disappointed for a top chefs team to produce below average dishes at above average prices. Almost £100 for 2 of us with a soft drinks.
10000/10. From the get go the service was impeccable, we had the lovely Ali looking after us who was extremely attentive and friendly. With a table of 5 of us, all very hungry, we had lots of starters and sides and nibbles as well main and dessert, so we tried a wide spread of the menu and everything was exceptionally tasty, fresh, and well presented. They have a good array of cocktails and wine too which we had and were delicious. All food came in a timely manner and we were waited on very well by the staff. Literally couldn’t have asked for better, was worth every penny and I highly recommend. To top it off, the lovely Ali bought out a happy anniversary dessert for my nan as a surprise to us all, great way to end our lunch, we all left very satisfied and impressed! 😊 thanks guys for a great experience!!!
Went to visit here to have lunch a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to share my experience. Service was excellent at first our waiter was amazing. After he had left we had to wait around 40 minutes to get our mains even though there were only a few tables left. Which was a shame because at that point I started getting a little bit impatient due to the long wait time. Food was great although as I’ve said there was a bit of a wait for the mains to come. I guess my expectations were a bit too high! We ended up ordering quite a few cocktails to did react us from the long wait times but the cocktails were really tasty!
We had an after Christmas trip to Winchester and walked into the town and come across Mr Rick Steins place. I am a huge fan of the great man so booked a table whilst standing outside as they were closed for another thirty minutes. The maitre d' was very welcoming and sat us in a wonderful spot near the window. The waitress was wonderful and really made us feel welcome. The the food well we have been to many restaurants in our time, Mr Stein you and your chefs have created a wonderful menu which was sublime the Oysters absolutely delicious along with the Moules mariners and the wonderful aromatic Indonesian seafood curry followed by the Winchester pudding which was only served with clotted cream. So for me this should be served with custard which I asked for, Now this is the good bit every other restaurant over the years when I have asked for custard did not oblige your man who was now serving us instead of the lovely young lady to begin with did nit bat an eye lid off he went I really thought he was coming back with cream no there it was the wonderful yellow custard sauce in all it's glory absolutely blew me away and the Winchester pudding what a winner. Thank you so much to your wonderful team it was an amazing meal and one of the best myself and my wife have had in a long time. Please please open a restaurant in Kent Whitstable Harbour has a wonderful location going spare right now it used to be the crab and winkle it's very well known one can only dream I doubt Mr Stein will ever read this. Thanks again for a wonderful evening.
