Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant

We went to The Mayfly this evening after some recommendations from our B&B host, we had cancelled another booking and after seeing how lovely the restaurant looked and how tasty the venison sharer starter was we were in high spirits.... However, unfortunately both the Sunday dinners were very disappointing. The only thing that made up for it was the delicious lamb and the freshly cooked cauliflower cheese (extra side) the remainder of the dinner really let it down. The potatoes were hard, cold and not crispy, parsnips were even tougher & very undercooked. In our opinion, we genuinely felt despite an upscale style Sunday dinner the portions were tiny. There was approximately a teaspoon of mash on the plate, half a parsnip and a singular cold carrot to accompany the main meat/Yorkshire pudding. Considering we cancelled another restaurant to come to this one, we were very disappointed and do not feel it was worth the price we paid. However, the staff were nice and very understanding of our thoughts on the food and made up for this with a reduction in the overall cost which did improve our opinion. The other menu items may have been better but as we did not try these we cannot say for certain.

Beautiful pub in a stunning location. Went for Mother’s Day and was a lovely experience. Beer garden had plenty of benches and spaces. Food was lovely, nice portion size and taste. Prawn cocktail could’ve done with more prawns, only three on the dish! Was really busy so understandably slower, but totally fine on a busy event. Roasts were lovely, huge Yorkshire pudding! Price reasonable. Would definitely come here again.

Delicious Absolutely superb. Trout was incredible. Charcuterie amazing. Burger fab. Salmon perfect. Brownie to die for. The food was phenomenal Lina was superb, our server, delightful and patient. Utterly fantastic
