Ok - so I gave 5 stars not because this is a 5 star hotel. I gave them 5 stars for executing well on what they are: a budget motel. Yes the rooms were old. But our room was not gross or dirty. The shower was fine. They had the basics a hotel room should have: hair dryer and iron and soap and shampoo. The bed was even okay. Better than the Fairfield inn I stayed at the next night. We were traveling without a pre planned reservation and all hotels were booked up and down I-75 from south of cincy to Lexington. So we took a chance on this one and it was fine. And the location within walking distance of a bar where we could get food late was a bonus.

This hotel was filthy. This hotel was filthy. The premises which includes stairwell, upper and lower levels where all entrances to rooms are located were disgustingly dirty as if no one worked there to maintain it to decent human levels. Then In my room the only place I could barely touch that was not dirty was the tub, toilet seat and bed linens - everything else like counter tops, night stands, microwave, desk top where dirty and looked as if no one cleaned ever. I opened a drawer looking for a ‘do not disturb’ sign located underneath the microwave and found a pair of filthy, black, men’s socks, it looked like it had been there a while. The floors of my room were the worst of everything, just filthy, I dreaded dropping anything on the floor for fear it’d get dirty. I booked a seven day stay but after just three days, I’d had enough. I checked out of my room this past Monday, early hours, and will never go back there again. Furthermore, I was billed for the entire reservation which I couldn’t even fulfill. I understand that the hotel I chose is economical compared to the other hotels in its surroundings but there is a certain level of basic human decency which a clean and maintained hotel speaks to — there were little gray mouses running around on the grounds as I was coming and going from my room! Absolutely unacceptable. Disgusted!

This is probably the worst room I've ever stayed in. The room was disgusting. The beds had been made but that's the only cleaning that was done. The bathtub looked like it hadn't been cleaned in atleast a month. It had hair, dirt and who knows what else in it. The floors hadn't been cleaned. There was food crumbs on the dresser and a layer of dust. We cleaned the room ourself before we felt comfortable enough to sleep in it. I've never had to clean my own hotel room before. You stop after a day of traveling and want to rest, not clean a room you paid for. The only good thing is it didn't have bugs. When checking in the guy at the front desk was the maintenance guy. He had to call someone on the phone to do all the check in stuff. I've never experienced that before either. Will not be staying here again!

I don't know what has happened throughout the years with motels but the lack of upkeep and cleanliness has gone down drastically. A clean room should be the standard. I'm not asking for any fancy amenities or exceptional service. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it has to look like a wreck or smell like like old smoke and mildew. Honesty would also go a long way if motels would actually post current pictures of their own motels and not a general stock photo. I can only urge people to check out rooms first before booking. This is what we did, we just wanted to spend one night to regain our energy for the trip ahead, thankfully we checked...the room had a mildewy smell and the bathroom had mold on the ceiling. I wish I had taken a picture of it because it wasn't just a small spot. Motels and their corporations do better. Have standards throughout the various states so travelers can rely on a clean room to spend the night in, no matter where and places where you don't have to break the budget.
